Vayda & Rowan (AKA Louise & Gus)

My boyfriend and I adopted Vayda and Rowan (previously named Louise and Gus) about a month ago, and we are completely in love with them! They are so much fun and they keep us on our toes all day. Vayda (the black/gray tabby) is 7 months old now and she is the ultimate cuddler. Even if I catch her doing something she shouldn't, and I feel as if she would run away from me- as soon as I scoop her up, I'm amazed that she's already purring and kneading into my face. It's easy to forgive her :) She acts more like a dog than a kitty, always talking to us and following us around. If I pat my leg even once, she'll hear it from across the room and will jump up into my lap almost every time, talking along the way to me!

Rowan (the gray/white tabby) is 4 months old now, and he is just the coolest kitten. He is so playful, but that doesn't stop him from stretching out and taking a nap for what seems to be hours at a time. It doesn't matter if the room is full of people- he will pass out in the middle of them all. It takes a lot to get him out of cuddling with us, since he is such a heavy sleeper. He is also the fastest kitten I've seen! They both have wonderful personalities, so it's hard for people around us not to fall for such cuties :) I'm so happy that a friend recommended Homeward Pet to us - couldn't imagine being without these amazing little cats!

Sumo

Hi Claire!
Sorry I have not reached out to let you know anything...I have been meaning to several times! Sumo is perfect! I actually renamed him Maxim and his full name is Sumo Maximus! From the moment I took him home he has made himself at home. He came right out and seemed comfortable. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect boy. I love his attitude and we play for about 30 minutes every night, otherwise he attacks my legs.... :-). He also really mellows out at night and has become a total love bug. He purrs and sleeps right @ my face w/ his arm around me. He has really made my new home feel like a home and I love having him to come home to. He is not shy and greets all my visitors. It has really been the perfect fit. I think he likes being the center of attention. He follows me around every where.

I did notice that he really wanted to go outside, so I went to petco and bought a harness and a cat leash and he actually has learned to go on walks! We go outside for about 20 minutes per day depending on the weather. He also likes the balcony. :-)

He doesn't seem to like any of the fancy cat furniture I got him or scratching posts and prefers the cardboard ones. He has also learned how to open my drawers(they r light material) and he goes to sleep in them. He is really just a joy and I wouldn't trade him for the world!
He is quite popular around my house as well, so let everyone know he is fabulous!

Thanks again!
Laura

Makita

In June 2010 we adopted our dog Makita as a 5 month old puppy. She had been rehomed and returned twice and came with the description of stubborn, not good around kids or other dogs and couldn’t be trusted with small animals. She had even bitten someone before. We made it our goal to socialize her and make her great with everyone and to teach her every trick we could think of. When we got home with her we found how stubborn she really was! She wouldn’t come to us when called, she wouldn’t stop jumping on people, she would snap at your fingers when trying to pet her and she didn’t want anything to do with us. We started thinking “oh boy what did we get ourselves into” but being as determined as we were we didn’t give up.

Every day we exposed her to different situations, people, kids, animals. We took her on walks in public places and we never left her alone. Although I’m sure she would have liked some alone time she never got it lol. After about a month we noticed a huge difference, she actually wanted attention and she wanted to be around us, she got excited to go for car rides because she knew we were going somewhere fun. That was a big deal to us and a great feeling!

Recently turning 2 she has turned into one of the most reliable and loyal dogs I have ever had or met. She follows us around and never leaves our side. Everywhere we go people are amazed as to how loving she is and how obedient and loyal she is. They all love seeing her do her tricks, especially people who know her story, she has become very well known! We have taught her every trick we could think of from sit, to holding a treat/toy on her nose, to hunting to playing dead. She is now great with dogs and animals of all sizes and even plays with my friends young son. She gets excited when she hears children instead of getting stressed out and running away and she LOVES her kitties.

About 8 months ago we got two kittens with the hope that they would get along with Makita, little did we know they would all become best friends. The kittens sleep on her, eat food with her, and even sometimes try to nurse on her (that’s always hilarious). She thinks they are great! At first she thought we had gotten her, her own personal squeaky toys and would try to carry them around like they were her babies.  Now that the kittens are older they all run around the house and play and even play outside, like they are playing tag!

All in all she is one of the greatest dogs that I have ever owned and we are so happy that we stuck through the hard part! We hope to soon adopt another dog from you guys so that she will have a friend other than the kitties. I attached some pics of her and her friends (dogs, kitties, and horses)!

Daisy

Hi

I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know how happy we are with Daisy. We could ask for a better dog. When she's outside she's super high energy, inside super mellow. She doesn't bark much at all.

I take her to the Mountlake Terrace dog park everyday. She fetches for an hour with very few breaks. She LOVES her tennis ball. We didn't go this last week due to snow conditions, so she's a little pouty. We'll be going today. She also goes to The Whole Pup once a week and loves daycare.

I did want you to see how much we love her. Thank you so much for Daisy, we are so happy with her.

Frog and Aslan

Greetings!

So very sorry for this to have taken so long – I promised I would send photos of the two lovely kitties we adopted from you nearly 4 years ago now. I dropped in just before the holidays with my family to see your new facility and spoke to the woman who helped us with our adoption and promised again to send some photos (dropped off some prints, but she wanted them electronically for the facebook page).

Here are some pictures of the beautiful teenagers. Their names are Frog (orange tabby) and Aslan (his brother) – I believe Aslan was called Essex while he was with you… Frog has always been Frog J They are amazing and wonderful members of our family and we are so privileged to have them. They also are the February pinup in this year’s Microsoft Cat Calendar J

Bart and Repete

This story started a long time ago - back when Homeward Pets was Hooterville Pets. My daughter (then 8 years old) and I volunteered one day a week at Hooterville cleaning litter in the cats' cages and walking dogs. We had two cats at the time and when we lost one from old age, we decided we would get another - from our favorite no-kill shelter.

My husband, my daughter and I came to Hooterville with one replacement cat in mind and left with two - a beautiful dark grey cat and an orange cat ~ they were both less than six months old.  Both Shadow and Pete are gone now (our daughter is now 28) and we decided to get another cat.

We discovered Hooterville had now changed to Homeward Pets and because we had been so happy with them before, we decided to return. We were glad to see that they are still a no-kill shelter, have a wonderful staff, and a beautiful new building. To our surprise, there were two cats there that were destined to belong to us. A beautiful black kitten and an orange kitten ~ both less than six months old. Bart and Repete.

We love them to pieces!

Lucy

What a good girl Lucy is! Lucy has been to two manners classes so far and she's doing great. She's learning how to greet a little less enthusiastically and how to behave around other dogs. Lucy loves to explore the parks in our neighborhood and gets two or three good sniffing sessions in every day. I think she's looking forward to the day she can go to the off-leash dog park in our area. Bird-watching (and probably chasing!) is one of her favorite things. She's great in the car and made a trip to the Washington coast with us this weekend - Lucy's an official beach dog! We're a lucky family to have such a good companion!

Thanks for checking in on us!

Kris

Cleo's Story

I wanted to give you an update on Cleo. I adopted Cleo a year ago on Saint Patrick's Day. My fifteen year old dog had recently passed away and it was too quiet in my house. Cleo livened things up! She quickly became the Queen of the House, and when I got a puppy in late May, she showed him who was boss! The two of them had a great summer waking me up at sunrise and running around the yard and house together. She loves his dog bed! Cleo is very much a loved cat and I think we both were lucky to find each other!

Thanks so much!

Mindy

Peaches

Peaches is doing really well here.  She saw our vet last Tuesday.  She's also started swim and massage therapy with Wag Wellness in Bothell.  She's doing really well with both.  She and Tuvok are becoming good friends and are keeping each other company.

Thanks again!

Art the Westie

Just wanted to let you know that the little West Highland White terrier I adopted about a week ago, formerly known as "Art" and renamed Kirby, is doing wonderfully!

He and my Schipperke, Celeste, are best friends! They sleep, play, eat and guard the house together. They both sleep on my bed at night.

Kirby LOVES the cats, (I have two) and both cats have walked up to him and given him a good kiss. :)

He is SO lovable and just wants to sit in my lap all the time. I am so happy I found him and so happy you took such good care of him in the brief time he was at Homeward.

He loves his walks and runs around the back yard playing with any toy I give him. He's getting treats and a little spoiled (on purpose!) and I couldn't be happier with him.

Thank you again for all you do!
