BAXTER/MITCHELL

“It’s been almost 2 months since we adopted our little bundle of joy and we couldn’t be happier. He has been a wonderful addition to our home and our family. He brings laughter and happiness to us every day and for that we couldn’t be more grateful. He lives a spoiled life filled with long days at the office with my finance so he’s never alone, hours of cuddle time on the couch, play time, and finishing off the day in his favorite place – our bed.

Thank you Homeward!!! If it weren’t for you we wouldn’t be so happy with such a great adoption.”

Lizzy (formerly Lindsey)

We adopted Lizzy, Pug/Chi, (you knew her as Lindsey), a few weeks ago and she is an absolute joy! We weren't sure how Dudley, our older dog would get along with her, given he's a bit grumpy with other dogs. However, she is winning him over with her happy go lucky personality and isn't daunted by his rebuffs! They can now be seen playing together from time to time as they race through the house taking turns chasing each other.

She cuddles with us and is so loving and happy. You can't help but smile looking at that cute little face! We can't imagine why anyone would ever surrender her, as she is simply perfect!

Thank you for bringing her into our lives.

Ziggy (formerly Pippin)

Thank you, Claire, for handling our adoption of Pippin last week.  His name is now "Ziggy" and he has been a fantastic pup... such a sweet boy who loves to cuddle and doesn't mind the crate at night... even waiting patiently (and quietly!) until we come to get him in the morning.  We are well on our way to having a house-trained doggie too!  Woohooo!  We are going to the vet tomorrow for his first visit.  A huge thanks for the folder full of info... we've read it all and it was very helpful.  We will highly recommend Homeward Pet to our friends who are looking to adopt a furry friend

Thanks again ~Jill, Todd, Tanner and Payton

Gabe

Hello Claire!
You are very welcome! I am happy that you will be able to put the cat supplies to good use. :)

I have attached a couple of pictures of Gabe (Gabriel). He is incredibly hard to pics of, as he is always on the move! The one where it is straight on is the one taken by you all, which is one of my favorites. The one where it is at an angle is one I took with my camera phone. It isn't the best, as my camera phone isn't one of the "elite". He is cute though, nonetheless!

When Gabe first came home, he hid in the upstairs closet and was so scared to come out. He and I would explore one new room a day, until he figured out that the townhome was his own. He now enjoys running up and down the stairs as fast as he can. When he plays, he gets me to laugh so hard that my belly hurts! He has a figure-8 track toy that he absolutely loves (I call it his "8 track"...tee-hee!). He jumps almost two feet vertically in the air on the track toy two times back to back and then runs away. It is hysterical to watch! His favorite toys though have to be his baby blue mouse and pink fluff ball (also known as his "Pinky"). He carries them in his mouth and throws them up in the air when he is feeling spunky. He tries to be a thoughtful cat by trying to clean your hair before he grooms himself. Gabe loves to snuggle with me as close as he can get. He flops down right in front of my face and wants to be wrapped up in my arms all evening long. When I leave for work in the morning, he will peer around the wall from the top of the stairs with his head sideways with a loving, quizzical look. He makes it very hard to leave, because you just want to go back up the stairs, scoop him up, and go snuggle on the couch. He enjoys following me around the house no matter what it is that I am doing. He is my ultimate companion and best friend. Claire, I owe everything to you. If it hadn't been for you, Gabe and I would have never met. I will forever be grateful to you for "throwing a wrench" in my decision making. Though the other kitties were sweet and cute, Gabe is my purrfect match! =^.^=

Benny (formerly Bernie)

Good morning,

This isn’t a great pic of “Benny Louis” but he doesn’t stay around long for pictures !! I took him to my vet and he’s good. They totally fell in love with him. (who wouldn’t)

Benny was slow at first, stayed under the bed for a few days. He’s slowly coming out and now he pounces on the other cats ~

Too funny !! (for a lil’ guy). Loves to play. Benny is in our hearts totally…… such a love….

My husband and I are really happy with Benny. He will grow in our family as a spoiled kitty ~~~ just like the rest of ours ~~~~

Thank you,

Tamaria

Apollo (formerly Thor) and Loki (formerly Frasier)

Hello,
Jay and I thought you might like to see photos showing how the cats we adopted from Homeward Pet are doing.  It has been almost 2 1/2 years since we got Apollo (formerly Thor) and almost 1 1/2 years since we got Loki (formerly Frasier) from Homeward Pet.  Some of their activities include: watching birds eat from the bird feeder, watching squirrels eat nuts off the deck, watching fish/bird/cat videos on the computer, playing with the toys from their toy drawer, and playing with newly found toys like the yards of packing paper that came around their tall scratching posts.  We have cat condos for them but they are often found on one of the window seats, especially if there are new boxes there to investigate.  :)  They are both affectionate and Apollo is very much a lap cat and Loki shakes his tale and arches up to get pets.

They bring us a lot of joy and I hope we bring them happiness as well.  :)

Edgar

Hello,
I adopted Edgar on 10/1/2003 from Homeward Pet.  I had just recently moved into my first place and my parent's decided to keep my cats.  So I knew I needed to give another cat a home.  I went to Homeward the afternoon of the 1st, not sure if I was just looking or would take a cat home.  The staff member was telling me about the different cats and stopped at Edgar's cage.  He was her favorite cat, a big orange tabby.  She explained that Edgar was FIV positive and that some people didn't want to adopt cats with that condition.  She let me hold Edgar as we walked around to the different cages.  I immediately knew that Edgar was the cat for me.  He never growled or hissed at the other cats and just sat contently in my arms.

I took Edgar home and we became buddies immediately.  Unfortunately for Edgar, there was a respiratory virus just starting to go through the shelter at that time and Edgar became very illness within about 4 days.  I checked him into the emergency vet and then finely had him transferred to Inglemoor Animal Hospital.  It was touch and go and we had to try various medicine.  I actually considered putting him down, but by a miracle, he pulled through.

Edgar was diagnosed with Lymphoma January 3rd of this year.  He had been slowing down, so I suspect he had it for several months prior.  He had surgery to remove a mass in his intestine and then came home until he became too weak to carry on.  He went to sleep for the last time yesterday surrounded by his family.

I loved Edgar and he was the best cat I have ever known.  He followed me where ever I went in the house and he loved to sit on the patio and just watch.  He enjoyed all his cat nip toys and his favorite activity was sitting with me and getting belly rubs.  He had the loudest purr of any cat I have ever heard.  He was a favorite with everyone that knew him and he loved everyone he met.

Two years ago, Edgar and I were joined by two kittens. Edgar welcomed them into the household and spent hours watching them run around, occasionally swatting one as they ran by. I know in his last days, he still enjoyed watching the little ones.

Edgar will be missed greatly and I am so grateful to have had him with me these 9+ years.  In his memory, I wanted to donate money to help other cats find homes and be loved as much as I loved Edgar.  While some might have thought of Edgar as a special needs cat due to his FIV status, he lived his life like there was no problem with him.

Thank you,
Leanne

Kensa

I adopted Kensa in March of last year. I met him at the shelter when I was volunteering & fell in love (He was still in the new dogs room; he wasn't up for adoption yet). He is the greatest creature that ever has lived, in my opinion! I attend WWU & also have a horse at college, and everyday when I get home from school he is so happy to see me, and he LOVES going to the barn. Probably the most fun/relaxing thing I get to experience is going for a 45 minute trail ride on my horse, with Kensa running next to me. He is great around horses, listens really well, and ALL my friends love him. He is GREAT with other dogs too; my parents even love watching him for me because their dog loves him so much. Also, one thing that I recently started doing with him that is really fun is biking; he loves running next to my bike and learned really easily not to pull! Everyone I meet falls in love with him; usually once a day someone tells me that they want to steal him. He is literally perfect in every way (the only thing difficult is that since he is part husky, he gets REALLY dirty, especially going to the barn everyday!) & I am so thankful I got to adopt him.

So, thank you homeward pets for bringing Kensa into my life! I have no idea why anyone would give up such an amazing animal but I'm so happy I get to take care of him now!

Sincerely,
Rosie

Dakota

Hi Claire,
Thank YOU! I absolutely love Dakota. She's the perfect addition to my life. She seems to be adjusting quite well.
I made an appointment with a vet in my area, but the earliest they could get me in is next Monday.
Thanks so much for all your help and assisting me with this adoption.
Take care
-Jen

Melvin

Seeing as how Melvin made the front page of your Feb newsletter, I thought I would send an update.

Since bringing him home he has made friends with all the neighborhood dogs. He seems to love everybody and everything.

Such a gentle, goofy, and playful dog. And even the stuck up and anti social Miss Joey (also a Homeward adoption) has befriended him.

He is just irresistible.
Thank you all for what you do.

Watson

Watson joined our family at the end of August 2012 and has been such a joy to have.  Watson is a 3 year old cockapoo who loves to play and go on walks.  He is so well behaved and has such a charming personality.  He is only a foot and a half but he can jump up to our chests and loves to tell us hello.  Coming home to him after a quick stop at the grocery store is so fun as he will jump on us and wag his tail for a good five minutes.  Watson went home on an airplane for the holidays this year (after we did a bunch of research).  He loved Wisconsin and all the snow, plus he got to meet a whole bunch of new friends that he can now Skype with.  Everyday brings a fun new adventure and we couldn't imagine not having Watson in our lives.

Thank you Homeward Pet.

Harley (formerly Bingo)

Hi Claire,
Harley (Bingo) has only been with us a couple of days, but I can't believe how quickly he has adapted!  He has only had one small accident the first day and has been going to the back door to go outside since then!  Yes, he has a couple of behaviors that need some training, but we feel confident that we can over come those.  We have already scheduled the training, taken him to the vet and ordered a new name tag.  He is such a sweet dog and we feel extremely lucky to have him!  Thank you for all the time you spent with us!  We really appreciate your support!

Sincerely,
Dionne

Forrest

He is such a great cat! Incredibly sweet and friendly. I feel so lucky.
Such an amazingly friendly guy.

Thanks for everything,
Carolyn

Thelma

When Thelma first came to Homeward Pet Adoption Center, it was in the height of kitten season and for a senior cat, that made Thelma very unhappy. She was adopted out but by no fault of her own was returned after some months-arriving back at Homeward right back into kitten season. Beautiful, healthy Maine Coon mix with many years to go (she was only 10/11 years old) but everyone preferred to pick kittens.
When my grandmother moved to Washington, we felt we may have a home for Thelma. The matter was discussed and then Thelma went to her new forever home. Once in a home of her own, away from the kittens, she changed completely from an unhappy cat in the shelter to a cheerful happy cat, friendly and chatty. She enjoys hanging out watching TV with her human, keeps company at the computer, and absolutely soaks up attention (although she does enjoy some independence, but mainly craves attention)! She s a wonderful companion, chats with you and is not too high energy like a kitten, but does still have some spunk in her, and is really healthy at her age-about 17/18 years old. She is not destructive, does not chew on things or scratch up furniture, nor does she get into mischief like some younger cats and kittens will do.
She was a senior cat in a shelter that deserved to live out her golden years in the comfort of a home and is currently living the dream. Thelma and everyone else hopes that more people will come and adopt a "Golden Oldie" pet and give a senior pet another chance for a great home like Thelma got!
