Tucker Update

 Hello all,

Just thought I'd drop a quick note to let you know how Tucker is doing.  He is such a happy boy!   We are so lucky we found each other.  When we first got him in late August, he had a terrible skin infection and was missing a lot of fur.  I'm happy to report his fur is all grown back and he looks so very pretty.  Tucker is very sweet tempered and playful.  Our daughter, Stevie, just dotes on him and he gets lots of walks and play time.  He seemed to fit right into our home and family.  No training issues or any other behavioral issues.  He's been to the vet and his teeth seem to be doing fine as well.

Tucker loves to cuddle with us and his new favorite thing to do in nice weather is to lay in the sun out on our patio.  Chasing squirrels is also a favorite sport!  Thank you, thank you for helping us find such a wonderful dog!!

Olive Update

Thank you for the Christmas card - I am sorry it's taken me this long to
update you on Olive.

She's almost 30lbs and not an ounce of fat on her! She's definitely fit
right in with everyone except our oldest Chinook. She's way to
rambunctious for him to deal with, but when it gets to be too much he
hides out in his crate where she can't bug him.

Olive spent Thanksgiving down in CA and was a trooper with the all the
driving. She's also definitely a snow dog!

She's been really stubborn about potty training, but I think we're over
the hump - now we just have to pay more attention when she's trying to
tell us to let her out.

She absolutely loves carrots and will almost steal them from the alpacas
when we're out giving treats. She'll even race our largest girl to a
piece if we drop them on the ground.

Thanks again

Leonetti (Mickey) is thriving

Hello again,

Just a note to update you on our little Leo. He is a whopping 23.4 pounds and is the doing wonderful. He is so sweet and loves everyone and everything. He and Cian are becoming inseparable. Cian howled at the front door when I took Leo to his vet appointment Saturday morning which is something she had done only for our Naya in the past. I honestly didn’t think I would ever hear her howl again...it is love for certain.

Harley the Happy Dog

Hi there!

My husband and I adopted Harley about 8 months ago from Homeward Pet.  He is such a wonderful dog!  He loves to play with other dogs and he thoroughly enjoys the water (as you can see in the pictures).  He has a dog friend (that a co-worker and I jokingly refer to as his fiance) named Willow and they play together at her house.  We have had such great adventures together!  We've been to many diffierent dog parks, including Magnuson, and the ocean (you can see his ears blowing in the wind).  Harley has been living with us in a small apartment near downtown Seattle, which has not been ideal for him, but he got to go to a doggy daycare twice a week.  Unfortunately, he is very afraid of loud noises, bicycles, and most people.  He does warm up, though, especially if you have a frisbee or tennis ball in your hand.  And we have been working with him to decrease his fear and hypervigilance.  We have recently moved to a small house in West Seattle, so Harley has a spacious backyard and a next door neighbor doggy friend.  He seems to have so much more joyful, boundless energy since the move.  He even seems to be smiling and wagging his tail a TON more.  I think he is a pretty smart dog, too.  And he really works hard for those treats!  He is really respectful, as well.  He won't eat a thing off of our plates even when the plate is at nose level.  He has gained a good 18 pounds since we got him, but he is still a skinny, healthy dog...  Harley is a great dog and we love him to death!

Thanks!

Update on Sylvia!

Dear Homeward Pet --

We adopted an adorable 3-month old kitten from you on December 6th.  Your name for her was Sylvia, and we have rechristened her Bella.  We also have a 2-year-old cat from your shelter, Chula (adopted in early February 2007 and originally named Shalom).  Chula means "pretty" in Spanish and "Bella" the same in Italian, see?

Someone from your office called us the week before last to ask if we would report on Bella and send a picture.  So pictures of both cats are attached.  We adore Bella and Chula!  My husband, who is partially disabled and can't work much, has been able to spend lots of bonding time with Bella, whom we keep strictly indoors, of course, along with Chula.  Bella got the rest of her first year shots at the vet and finished her daily soft kitten food regimen recently upon reaching the ripe old age of 5 months, and she is healthy, happy, and full of kitten energy.  We had to keep the two cats apart for a long time at first, but the older cat is finally agreeing to accept the kitten.  Bella loves to run and play, to fully inspect any home appliance that uses water, and to sleep by the fireplace (you might recall that her rescuer found her almost frozen on a sidewalk on chilly November evening last year, poor thing, and now she seems to cherish anyplace warm and cozy).  As wild and playful as she can be, Bella also loves to snuggle and purr on my lap and my husband's, for a little while, anyway, until the next kitten game is on.

We love our kitties and are so grateful for what you do.  We send you a little cash a couple of times per year when we can.  I also posted your website address on my Facebook profile after we adopted Bella and recommended your shelter to all my friends.  Thank you for everything!

GS Troop 254 Visits Homeward Pet Adoption Center

Girl Scout Troop 2564 Visits the Homeward Pet Adoption Center

Girl Scout Troop 2564 took an awesome field trip to visit the Homeward Pet Adoption Center in Woodinville.  They had the opportunity to give the animals a little love, learn about how the animals came to the shelter, and see the incredible volunteers helping to care for the animals.  The troop also donated cardboard scratchers, nylabones, kongs and other toys, as well as a few coins from their piggy bank.   These second grade girls know that you CAN make a difference in the lives of homeless animals.  Homeward Pets is an approved 501(c) (3) charity and is entirely funded through private donations.

Cooper!

Hello!

Thank you for the phone call asking about the new addition to my family! Cooper is doing great here, he was restless the first couple of nights but he has settled in quite well! He runs around the house free when i'm home and he sleeps in a kennel at night (because he is a sock nabber!)
He loves my parents cat (a little too much) and likes to chase him around so they are adjusting to eachother still.  They are getting along ok, he doesnt hurt max and max is warming up to him too.  Cooper comes to work with me at the vet everyday, it took him a day or two to get used to the kennel at work, but he has become used to it now and he actually runs to it in the morning.  On my break i take him out to roam and i think he doesnt mind coming to work with me anymore.  he loves driving in the truck with his head out the window all the time!
He still has a little food and treat agression in some situations.  He used to growl at me when I put food in his bowl at work but he was just stressed out that he was back in a kennel like setting, but I worked with him and he doesnt growl at me in his kennel anymore.  He sometimes growls over treats but I found a way to stop that, I've been feeding him pill pockets as treats and I pet his head as he takes it out of my hand, which seems to be working well.
Overall we are getting along great and I love having him!  Thank you for taking such great care of my baby until i found him!

Picture of His Catness, Tommy, the Welcoming Committee

Hi, Laurel

Here is that picture I meant to send you a while ago. We adopted Tommy and sister Tulip from HPAC years ago, and as you can see from this early photo, Tommy was a natural born socialite. He has always served as a great ambassador for our animal training facility, Rivendale Learning Center (www.TeamRLC.com ).

Thanks for years of wonderful animals!

1 month update on Otis

Hi Homeward Pet,

We’ve had Otis for a month and it’s hard to imagine our life without him now.  Otis has bonded most strongly to Jollee, as they spend the most time together, including two daily walks.  He is her shadow.  Otis loves everyone in the family and is WONDERFUL with kids - very patient and affectionate.  Otis is very mellow, snorts but rarely barks, and prefers to spend most of the day sleeping.  He prefers to snuggle on our laps but will settle for laying right on a heater vent or a warm couch.  Otis is now successfully crate trained.  He sleeps overnight in his crate and hangs out there when we are gone from the house (never more than a few hours at a time).  In a few weeks Otis and Jollee will begin obedience classes.  We are pleased to report that chubby Otis has lost almost a pound since we adopted him.

Thank you for a fabulous adoption experience.  A few updated photos are attached.

Marshmallow and Snickers

I got a call tonight to follow up with our pet’s adoptions and things are going very well.  I am including some pictures for your files if you wish to see them.  Our kids renamed from Angel and Sierra to Marshmallow and Snickers.  Our family is loving the little kitties and they seem to get along with the other pets, still a little shy at times.  We travel with them in a little kennel to our property in the Methow Valley and along with our 19 year cat and they are doing great.  Marshmallow is quite mellow, like to eat, snuggle and play with toys.  Snickers, she is the feisty one, gets into all kinds of trouble by exploring, distracted by the simplest things and when she is not happy, she lets you know it.

Definitely recommend people coming to your facility to adopt.

Life with Leonetti

Hi Cindy,

I want to thank you for letting us bring this sweet boy into our lives. He is amazing! I can't believe how perfectly he has settled in to our family. We love him so much. What a smart little guy and he is growing like a weed. We had our first vet visit Friday and he is a very healthy boy not to mention that he now weighs 19 pounds. Cian loves her new little brother and he charms everyone he meets. I will send you updates to share with everyone there at Homeward Pet.

Take care!

Hello from Wilson

Hello there,

I have been meaning to write to you for awhile now and tell you how happy I am in my new home!

My humans are great. They let me sleep on the bed and give me lots of bones to chew. I am getting better at not chewing my little humans dolls. I had a bit of mange that we got all taken care of naturally and I have some dog acne that we are hoping goes away soon(maybe when I get out of adolescence)., but these humans you picked out for me take it all in stride and know how lucky we are to have found each other.

My Pack is great too. The other bulldog like me is an older girl but still manages to keep up with me. She even manages to get my bones away from me sometimes but I am okay with it. The other dog that is little, sure thinks he is the boss (my humans call it a napoleon complex) but we have become best buddies in fact we all have become fast friends (that is us in the picture I am the one in front).

Thank you again for finding me my forever home!!!!

Love,

Axel (formerly Cloudy) was one of the pit bull puppies abandoned on Thanksgiving.  Here he tells about his first week in his new home:

The Axel Diaries

Sunday January 25th

I’ve arrived at my new forever home after our car ride, and a stop at PetSmart for something called “supplies”.    I like the car; I get to sit on a lap and look out the window.

I didn’t know I was getting a playmate in the deal.  Ursa the 60lb. American Staffordshire is huge, and I’m not sure if she’s going to eat me or what.  She doesn’t seem to know what to do with me, either.

I haven’t figured out where the bathroom is yet.  I’m guessing the living room floor may not be the best choice.  My dog parents didn’t praise me, and immediately tossed me outside.  They seem surprised that I go outside most of the time, though.  I don’t think it’s a big deal, my foster parents did a good job of showing me.  I just forget sometimes.

My dog parents also think it’s a big deal that I always sit for a treat.  Again, my foster parents worked with me lots, and it’s pretty much second nature now.  But if my new parents want to think I’m smart, I’m not going to tell them otherwise.

Strange people came into the house.  I like visitors. One was called “Lora”, and a man called “Brian”.  They were nice, I hope they come back.

Monday January 26th

My new dog mommy just left us in the morning.  I don’t know if she’s coming back.  Dog daddy hung out with us today, though.

Ursa and I finally figured each other out this morning.  We played all day, in between naps.  Ursa plays very gently with me.  When I try to prove I’m boss, she isn’t very nice to me.  Sometimes she takes my toys, but my dog parents always get them back for me.  It’s okay, though, I steal hers.  Her toys are BIG, though, and I don’t always get very far with them.

By the way, dog mommy eventually came back home. She seemed happy to see me, so I guess she wasn’t mad at me.  I also discovered today that going to the bathroom by the front door isn’t where I need to go, either.  The backyard must be the spot.  Dog daddy seems happy when I go out there, and acts like an idiot.  It’s kind of embarrassing, I hope the neighbors aren’t watching.  There’s a “dog door” that Ursa uses to go in and out.  Darned if I can figure it out, though.

Tuesday January 27th

Oh, no!  Both the dog parents left me this morning!  I’m by myself in my crate.  I don’t know where Ursa went.

*whew* Dog mommy came back later.  She fed me and played with me, and I got to chase Ursa around.  It didn’t last long, though, before I was back in my crate.  I could use a nap anyway.

Dog daddy came home and let me out.  Later in the evening we played with a game where we had to stand on a square metal thing.  First dog daddy stepped on it, then he picked me up and we both stepped on it. It made beeping noises, then we got off.  I don’t know what “19 pounds” means, but he seemed kind of surprised about it.  He said I’m going to be “huge”.

I guess there are cats in the house.  Not that I care much.

Wednesday January 30th

We took another car ride tonight.  When we got there, there was another puppy to play with.  We also played a game with a thing that makes a clicking noise.  It’s fun, when it clicks I get a treat.  I have to do stuff first, though.  It’s easy: I just sit on the ground, or follow dog daddy around, and they click it and give me food.  I hope we play that game some more.

Thursday January 29th

We got to go for a car ride today.  We went to a place where there were other dogs and some cats.  I met a nice lady who poked on me, and looked at my teeth and eyes. I didn’t like the part where she stuck something up my butt, and the sharp thing kinds of hurt, but it wasn’t too bad.  “20.5 pounds” must mean something good, because everyone seemed excited about it.

I still don’t get this dog door thing.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.  My dog parents help me when it doesn’t work, so I can always get out to go to the bathroom.  Dog daddy still acts like an idiot when I go.  I don’t know what the big deal is anymore.

Friday January 30th

Dog mommy stayed home all day today!  We didn’t play much, though; she spent most of the day poking her paws at this thing with lots of buttons.  That’s okay, Ursa and I kept each other occupied.  When we get tired, we go take naps together on her bed.

New people came over.  I like meeting new people, everyone I meet seems glad to see me.  Two of these people said they’re going to come visit me during the day to feed me and let me play with Ursa when my dog parents are at work.  That will be fun.

Saturday January 31st

Ursa and dog daddy left me!  Ursa put her coat and collar on, and out they went, and didn’t take me.  They came back after a bit.  I guess we take turns at this or something, because then it was time for my first walk outside.  It was fun, but kind of scary, too.  There are a lot of scary noises.  It’s more tiring than it looks.  We weren’t gone very long. Dog daddy wanted to go further, but I’d had enough and wanted to go home.

I’ve got this dog door thing nailed.  The secret is to not give up.  If it doesn’t work the first time, try it again.  I just go to the bathroom outside now, there isn’t much reason to do it in the house since I can go outside whenever I like.  I don’t know why dog daddy stills watches me, I’m a big dog now and don’t need his supervision.  He still acts like pooping is a major production, I wish he’d cut it out.

Ursa and I got another car ride, to someplace called “Mud Bay”.  That place is awesome!  All kinds of things to sniff, and everyone there was excited to see me.  I got lots of treats.

Lora and Brian came back.  Lora let me sit on the people bed and snuggled with me.  I never got to do that before, dog mommy and daddy won’t let me on the people bed.  I like Lora, I hope she comes back lots.

I guess they’re calling me “Axel”.  Took them longer enough to figure out a name.

Sunday February 1st

When my siblings and I were in that box by the side of the road, we were so young I can barely remember it.  I do remember all the good things my foster parents did for me, and the things they taught me to make it easy for me to get a good home.  I’m glad my foster parents did that, because when Mike and Katherine came to Homeward Pets, they seemed so impressed with me!  They said they didn’t want a puppy, but I guess I convinced them otherwise.

I’m also glad Homeward Pets let me stay with them for a few days.  I didn’t like being in a kennel much, but Mike and Katherine wouldn’t have found me if I weren’t living there, so I guess it worked out.

I’ve been at my forever home for a week now.  I’m so glad Mike, Katherine, and Ursa let me live here.  I have so much fun, and I learn something every day.  They all seem to love me very much.  We’re always going somewhere, or meeting new people. I guess just because someone doesn’t want you and abandons you in a box doesn’t mean you can’t grow up to be a special dog that makes someone very happy.

Raina loves her new home!

Hi Homeward!

I talked to one of your volunteers on the phone, and she gave me your email for pictures.  I have quite a lot, so I'll send then in a series of emails.

My daughter changes "Reina" to "Raina" in honor of the fact that we live in the rainy Seattle area.  Raina has settled in quickly, and we're all enjoying her so much!   She's very playful, loves her play mice (tho she's also very interested in the real gerbils!), and is always exploring given a chance.  The best thing is that she's my daughter's greatest friend. :)

Hope you like the pics, and thanks for all your care and assistance in getting Raina to us!

Annie

Hi Cindy, just wanted to let you know what  Annie...the whippet/shepherd mix that we adopted, is a delight! She is the sweetest dog, and gets along really well with the kids too. She does love to run, and escape..you were right! She is very happy and has a great life and is well loved. Thanks so much for all your help.  Mark & Angie  :o)

Magic Moments!

Hi,

Here are some pictures of Magic. These tell our story.

We adopted him about 2 months ago from your shelter. We are very happy to have him. He is very playful and exceptionally nice to our dog.

Thanks for making wonderful animals available for adoption.

Picture of a happily placed pup!

Hi there!

Here is a picture of "Ruby" - now named Dolce (Italian for "sweet"), with her new best friend and "mama," Kenda. We adore Dolce, and she is doing very well - she gained about four pounds the first month! Our veternarian says she will most likely be about 40-45 pounds. She is a healthy, energetic pup. We're still working on a few bathroom training issues, but other than that, she is a wickedly smart little girl, and trains very easily. She responds to consistent and loving instruction, and she has a great role model in our two-year-old dog, Kenda.

Kenda and Dolce are wonderful playmates. Kenda is a lab/Italian greyhound mix, and loves to run. Dolce, lab/blue heeler, LOVES to chase and "herd" Kenda. We take them to a large field near our house and let them play to their heart's content. It's a joy to watch.

Our family feels complete with Dolce with us. Kenda has become so much more balanced and serene since Dolce came home. She curl ups with Dolce and grooms her obvious affection. Dolce returns the favor. They wrestle and share chew toys; often teasing each other in a keep-away game. They are a perfect match!

We are so happy, and thankful we were given the opportunity to give her a home. Feel free to inquire how she is doing at any time.

Warmest Regards,

Amy and Stephan
