Update from a month in: Marty (AKA Pandora) is a nutball! This shy and timid dog has blossomed into a silly, rambunctious goofball. She shakes her toys to death and plays tug-o-war with us, likes to wrestle with my husband, runs around the yard like a maniac, and loves to go on long walks (12 pound dog did 2.5 miles like it was nothing!). When not wound up, she's a full-on snuggler. She is really funny with her chew treats. She runs around the house with them and "buries" them in our bed, on the couch, on me, etc. - she gets really worked up about them before she finally demolishes them.
She's still a little aloof with new people, but getting better. She's figuring out the routine of the house - she now knows what "let's go outside" means and is first to the back door, and finally mastered sit (she was easily distracted during training classes), and does it on her own before getting her food or treats. She goes in her crate with no fuss when I'm leaving the house, so I think she was used to that prior. Now that we've got "sit" down, we're going to start working on some new skills - leave it, down, wait, and go to your bed are next.
The old dogs are starting to chase her around a little, and the cat has gone from completely ticked off to starting to stalk her, though still hissing and growling the whole time. Yesterday, Loki (the cat) and Marty sat on the couch with me together, one on each side, so great progress there. We love her to bits, this crazy tiny intruder. We may not have been planning to this, but I'm so glad we did it! Thank you for the all the help!
