Mawell (formerly Sport)

My husband & I adopted Max at the end of January 2012. I work near Homeward Pet & often see the volunteers walking the dogs past the shop. One day Max (formerly "Sport") walked by and I ran out to meet him. Soon 4 more of my co-workers saying hello to him with me. He stayed on my mind all day and I told my husband about him that evening. Without hesitation, he asked if we were going to get him the next day. My husband has wanted a dog for quite some time, but I've always been dead-set against having a house dog; I grew up with ranch dogs that were never allowed inside. When I saw my husband's eagerness for me to get a picture of Max, I knew there was no going back. Three days later, Max came home with us.

We kennel Max at night and he does well with that. We've discovered that the boy is NOT a morning puppy. He is smart: he was housebroken in only 3 days, he did very well in puppy classes and has moved on to more training classes. He loves going for rides in the car and being outside - no stick is safe when he's around. My husband is wrapped around his little paw and shows him off like a new baby, for he gets noticed wherever we take him. We are excited about taking him on new adventures camping with us this summer.

Thank you to Homeward Pet for caring enough about these wonderful companions to make sure they are healthy, well loved & taken care of. Every one of the volunteers we spoke with at the shelter was very enthusiastic and helpful. We would adopt more pets from this place if we were able to. I still look forward to seeing the volunteers walk the dogs past my window at work.

Greta Garbo: A failed foster but successful adoption

I knew when I started volunteering at Homeward Pet, I would eventually end up bringing "something" home with me.  After losing my own cat Hampton to a long battle with Kidney disease, I wasn't in a big hurry.  The truth is, I had my heart set on a dog.
When I first met Garbo, she wasn't too thrilled about shelter life (but who is?)  I found her to be grumpy on most Saturday's.  She started to warm up to me – but only after about 5 months. The day I actually heard her purr, was the day I decided to do something more.   She became my foster kitty.
I thought she might need some time to feel comfortable after bringing her home. Maybe a few days, weeks, if not months. It only took about 30 seconds. She became a different cat right out of the crate.   She explored her new surroundings for two hours before falling asleep in the bed and claiming it as her own.
Since then, she wakes up with me each morning, and goes to sleep with me each night, and follows me around in between.  She loves attention and to snuggle close. She enjoys lying in the sun and feeling the outdoor breeze from her window perch.  The spiders she catches are yummy but not as yummy as Tuna Fish flavored wet food. She loves drinking water out of the bathroom sink.  This is where we keep her water dish now. Her only complaint might be the very scary vacuum cleaner.
Sometimes we don't choose the animals to share our lives with, they choose us.  Garbo chose me and has requested I change her name to Greta.  Greta has found her forever home. Thank you Homeward Pet for giving her the second chance she deserves so we could find each other.  We couldn't be happier.
Love Anne and Greta.

Darth Vader

Little Darth Vader is doing great!  He has already made friends with our 1 yr old cat, Blashy and our lab, Sunny (yes, he's biting Blashy's foot in the picture).  He's had his first checkup at the vet and goes back for his shots in a couple of weeks.  He's very sweet and fun!  Thanks for checking in.

Best regards,

Bentley (AKA Finnagan)

Here are some pictures of Finagan. His name was changed to Bentley! He is an amazing puppy. He listens very well. He knows how to stay, sit, and lay so far. He is potty trained now which is a huge deal to our roommates! I am so glad that we found Bentley, I couldn't ask for a better dog at the perfect time.

Sincerely,

Chanel, Adule and Jerid

Mac (AKA Oliver)

We are delighted with Mac! Mac is our best buddy. He has different relationships with all of us.  He is my guardian and best walking buddy. He is more playful with my husband...seems to feel he doesn't have to guard him. He treats all our adult kids as siblings almost.  Plays very well with others. Loves the off leash parks on Whidbey Island. Gets along very well with other dogs. Mac is very clever and smart. He behaves well for me.  Took him to beginning manners class and he was an example to us all.  Took him to a rehab center a few weeks ago to visit a friend; he was allowed to go with me. I was so proud of him. Walked by my side and always asked for permission to be petted by the patients. A huge hit!  Am thinking of working with him to become a companion dog but need to do more research.

Cheers!
Joy

Max (formally Link)

I just wanted to let you know that we are very happy with Max (formally Link). Once he got in his new big yard, he had plenty of room to run around and burn off all that energy. He is very obediant and smart, loves to play and fetch, and has been excellent in the house.
Bob, Brooke, and I are glad we found your shelter and will be sure to refer you to our friends and family.
Thanks again,
Richard

One Bit and Two Bits

Hi Laurel,
Here are some current pictures of the two wonderful cats we adopted from you two and a half years ago. We renamed “One Bit (also Lil Bit)” and “Two Bits (also Tootles)”.
Best regards,
Mike & Linda

Ping

Hi Claire,

Ping is doing so good he is very loving and already spoiled. He has put on a little weight because he steals any treats dropped on the floor by the other dogs. He gets lots of playtime in with the other dogs and sits in my lap while I work from my home office. He is so attached to me and follows me everywhere in the house. He is an absolute angel.

Hunter

Hello! Here's an update on Hunter.

There's so much to say about Hunter since we've gotten him. One of his favorite past times is gnawing on ropes and tearing rubber toys into pieces. We're very happy that he has restricted his love of chewing to his toys, though one notable exception was when we left him alone for the first time. He had shown interest in my backpack the first time he saw it, and I accidentally left them in the same room. Hunter opened the zipper on a small pouch, pulled out everything inside, and ate a Cliff bar. We came home to find the contents of the pouch and pieces of a Cliff bar wrapper strewn over the floor. We've cemented his basic commands like sit, down, stay, and come, and have been working on look and rollover. He loves his Costco bed, laying with people on the couch, all food (especially his new bacon+cheese flavored treats), and going on walks. He's not currently very good with other dogs, but with work he's getting better and we're starting training classes later this month.

Sara

We visited Homeward Pet February 4th and just fell in love with a beautiful gray kitty that purred her way into our hearts.  Sara became comfortable with her new home and family within a few days and is now the queen of the house.  She wakes us up with love bites every morning for breakfast, we've taught her to walk on a harness, fetch balls and sit before every meal and for treats.  She is so smart and wonderful, we all enjoy our new addition.  Sara even has a "catio" I've built on our deck so she can enjoy the upcoming sunny Spring and Summer weather safely.  We told friends about how wonderful Homeward Pet is and they have also recently adopted Chip, a sweet little Chihuahua.  Thank you so much again to all the staff and volunteers at Homeward Pet.

Sincerely,

Tiffany, Craig, Jaden (9), Ronan (7)

Berry (Aka Mobi)

Hi there,

Our kitty, whom you called Berry but we named Mobi (short for August Ferdinand Mobius, the scientist and mathematician), is doing great.  He is growing rapidly and is as cute and sweet as the day we found him at your shelter four weeks ago.  A picture is attached.  Thank you so much for letting us adopt him.  He has added much fun and love and laughter to our world.  Regards,

Pandora's First Week

Pandora is holding her own, doing a lot of exploring and at the moment is curled up behind me in the easy chair while I type. A little slow to warm up, but she comes around fast once she does. She has enjoyed the yard a lot, and done several bouts of running in circles over and over again, as well as sniffing, peeing, and grass-eating. She has also met the neighbor dogs and done great with them. She is somewhat baffled by the cat, and there's still some exploring to do there - I think it's mutual. Loki seems to be weirded out by how small she is.
She likes to watch baseball on TV and to our surprise she was able to jump on to our tall bed from the floor!

Overall, I think it's going to be a-okay. Thanks so much!

Nemo Update

Nemo is doing great!  He is still a very active kitten who loves to play.  He loves to "burrow" under covers and into paper bags.  He's hilarious.  He jumps up into Brian's arms for a "Kitty Shoulder Ride" around the house.  He is very athletic.  He gets along great with our other 2 cats and our dog (see pictures).   He is fully grown at about 6 pounds, and as you can see, he didn't grow into his tail.  :-)  He walks around swishing his giant plume of a tail.  He is a great addition to our family!

Thanks,

Amanda

Our Sam

It’s been a year and a half since Sam rescued us.  Look at that face!  Now you understand how our hearts were hopelessly stolen from the beginning!   Sam knew that he would be perfect for us, and he was so right!   He was already housebroken, leash-trained, and knew some commands.  He is sweet, loving, smart, and expressive.   Yes, Sam has some gray in his muzzle and walks a little slower, and that’s okay with us.  Every day, he tells us how much he loves us.   How lucky are we to have such a precious “baby” as part of our family.   See how smart senior pets are??   Senior Pets Rock!!

Sincerely,
Rocky and Lu
