Our New Baby Josie

I found Josie (before: NALA) while searching for puppies online. She was origionally sheltered in Yakima and when i called to get info on her, they told me she was being transfered to Woodinville. We live in Bellingham and so now she was much closer to us! How perfect! We got to the shelter early on the first day she was available for viewing and got to meet her first. When we met her, we instantly knew it was meant to be. She was just perfect. Josie is a loving, loyal, social and very happy puppy! She is now attending Puppy Kindergarten at Tails-a-Waggin and loves all those puppies to play with! Josie loves camping, long hikes, chewing, fetch and sleeping on a warm lap. She loves her older sis Maisy (our other beloved dog) and looks up to her. We love her so much and are so happy to have her in our family!

Ben's tale

Hi! My name is Ben (formerly Baker). I have a wonderful life I now with my new human. I'm not chained up outside anymore! I have a huge backyard to run and play in, with my very own doggie door so I can go outside whenever I please. I have a toy basket full of stuff to play with, although my favorite toy is a plastic bucket I found outside! My human gave me two beds to sleep in: one in his bedroom and one by the tv set so we can enjoy lots of time together. He buys me really yummy dog food and treats, too. And he loves to brush my fur so it's soft and shiny. I also have a best friend named Louie (formerly Schwen from Homeward) that comes over and plays with me. I really have it good!

Stella and Preston

Stella and Preston joined our family on July 3, 2010 as 3 month old sibling kittens. Our 6 year old nuetered male cat was a bit pensive at first but over the last month has adapted to the frisky young-ins and is acting like a kitten himself. Stella and Preston are so much fun, everything is new and everything is a toy. They are very loving and we are glad they are with us. They are now 4 months old and getting bigger. Our home has lots of room to run and places to hide. Their favorite game is with the laundry hamper in the master bedroom. They have learned to open the hamper, jump in and out and try to catch each other.
We are thrilled that Homeward Pets were able to rescue them and that we were able to give them a permanent loving home.

We adopted Wookie (called Miss Jenny at Homeward Pet) on June 25th. Right away she was the Best Dog Ever with her sweet, playful, and laid back disposition. My oldest son was a little sad on the day we adopted her because he had fallen in love with a dog at the humane society, but another person was already adopting that dog. Within one day, he couldn't imagine having any other dog but Wookie. Now, she is totally a part of our family and we are all very happy we found each other.

2 Kittens- MUCH better than 1

Before visiting your shelter, I was considering adopting one kitten. The idea: a kitten " I " could 'raise'. After recommending that I get two kittens, and did some research, talked with my sisters (who have both had cats), and decided to adopt a pair. For emphasis, I am using the CAP lock... please share with any kitten-less adopter that "ADOPTING TWO KITTENS IS A MUST!!!"

 

Aside from the they're-so-cute reasons... they comfort each other (far better than any human can), teach each other (far better than any human can), and play with each other (far better than any human can). Plus, if you want either kitten to learn something... you 'teach' the most teachable one (at that moment)... and that one will, in turn, 'teach' the distracted one for you! :) It's a wonderful system!

 

I adopted "Ebony" and "Ted" (now known as Inkspell and Boots) on 7/25/10. It's now 7/27/10... just two days later... and both I and they couldn't be happier. Please share this message with any person considering adopting a single kitten.

Thomas Starr

A few years ago my dad and I were looking to bring another cat into our lives. We already had a female adult cat, but thought that she could use a companion and since our other male cat passed away a couple years beforehand we figured it was time to adopt another cat.

At the time, I was volunteering at Homeward so I became very familiar with all the cats at the shelter. After about a month of looking for the right cat for us, Thomas Starr came into the shelter. He was probably the most unique and cutest cat in the shelter. This orange tabby has a huge face with a scar on the bridge of his nose and a bent over ear. I was shocked to still see him there when I came back a week later to volunteer again. With a face like his I thought he'd be picked up on the very first day. I then realized why he wasn't already adopted: he was FIV positive. When my dad came in to see him we both knew that he was the cat that we had been searching for, but had no idea what FIV was and didn't want to adopt a cat that would wasn't going to have a very long or happy life and we definitely didn't want to put our other cat endanger either. But after learning about the disease from the wonderful staff at Homeward we decided to take the chance and bring him home.

Since he's been with us he has been nothing but a happy, loving, and active cat. Thomas hasn't had any health issues whatsoever since he became part of the family four years ago. He's just like any other healthy cat and we often forget that he even has a disease. Our female cat has also been perfectly healthy and they have gotten along just fine together. Thomas Starr is a great cat that loves to snuggle and bury his head into your neck and just be loved and at the center of attention at all times. I am so glad and grateful that we took the chance on him, even though he's FIV positive.

Update on Stella and Preston

Greetings from Stella and Preston!

We joined our new family almost two weeks ago and we are soooooo happy! We have lots of room to run, stairs to climb, place to hide and have sneak attacks on each other! We have an older brother, Ed, who is 6 years old. At first, he didn’t like us too much – he would hiss and spit at us, but we’d make our tails fat and run sideways and that seemed to scare him away. We are now all love buddies and play together – but sometimes we get too annoying and he swats us. He showed us the ropes of climbing on the kitchen table to watch the birds outside and how to use the new scratching post. We have toy mice that we chase and some cool high places to perch and nap. There is a human boy and girl who let us sleep with them at night and they are very good about cleaning our box, keeping our water fresh and making sure we have good food. We get to show off for their friends too! Their mom calls us “the ninja kittens” because we are stealth and can appear from nowhere! All of our humans love when we sit on their laps and purrrrrr but we are not sure why they don’t think it is fun when we climb up their legs to get to their laps. They know we will be big enough to jump up there pretty soon!

On our third day at our new home, we went to the vet’s. The car ride was ok and the vet was pretty nice. There was big dog there so it was a good thing we were in the carrier – he didn’t look too friendly. The vet said we were very healthy and was glad our humans adopted us!! We weighed in at 3lbs a piece. Life is good!

We will try to send some pictures this weekend – we are getting taller – but we have a hard time sitting still long enough to get a good picture, there are so many exciting things to do that distract us. Stella like to try to play with the computer screen and is mesmerized by the trying to catch the cursor. Preston likes anything Stella likes.

We miss our friends and humans at Homeward but we are very happy with our new family and our feline brother Ed!

Miss Mochi, Our Sweet Girl

We adopted Mochi (formerly Chili) in late June. While we were originally looking for a younger dog, Mochi fit all of our other needs exactly, so we decided to meet her and see if she was a fit. Boy was she ever! Being part whippet she makes a great running partner for me. She comes to us with BEAUTIFUL manners, and she is great with the kids despite clearly not having been around small children previously. (She didn't even know about the goodies to clean up under the table after the kids were done eating - isn't that in Dog 101?!? She's figuring it out now though!) We enrolled in obedience class mostly to let me learn the commands - she's already a pro at all of them. She's still learning the ropes with her new doggy friends at grandma's house, she wasn't really socialized growing up so doggy playtime is a little confusing for her. She's lucky enough to be our only dog at home so we're letting her take her time getting used to her new friends. We're getting there though!

She ADORES all her people, me in particular but she's not picky! In fact, she is such a people lover and smart girl that I am seriously considering certifying her as a therapy dog. She just has this look to her when she is loved on that makes your heart MELT, and you just feel she loves you so much!

While we have a hard time understanding how her previous family could have surrendered her, we're definitely grateful they did. I think she was truly meant for our family. :)

Smudge and Lyle

Our daughter picked Smudge (now named Muffins) for her 8th birthday present on July 11th. Muffins is very affectionate, playful and loving. She purrs all the time and loves having the kids pick her up and cuddle with her. We knew Muffins needed a playmate, so we went back to the shelter several times until we found Lyle (now named Skippy) on July 23rd. He has been everything we hoped for and so much more! He's incredibly smart and adapted very easily to the kids and the house. He loves people and needs to know where everyone is in the house, including Muffins. They have become fast friends, enjoying their playtime and sleeping on our bed at night. We are so happy we adopted from Homeward Pet!
