Lacey

Hello Homeward, We adopted Lacey about around the end of August hoping
she would be a good friend for our year old Rottie mix. They LOVE each
other. Lacey loves every person and dog she has met so far and is a
great addition to the family. She loves to cuddle and can't wait to play
every second of the day. She's helped our Rottie Maddy lose a few pounds
in the process too!!! Thanks for taking such great care of her while she
was in the shelter and we are so glad we found her and happy to have our
two beauties at home!

Welcome Brio!

Hello Homeward!

We received a voicemail from Lori so here is our response. Below is the
welcome email we sent to our friends with some of the first photos
attached. We named "Mitzi" Brio because it means lively and animated in
Italian and it's also the name of a Fraggle that looks exactly like her.
Heh.

She is much less mellow, now, but always a sweetheart and we're so
thrilled that she seems happy, secure, and loving life with us. She
still needs some socialization around other dogs but we're taking it
slow and she's adjusting. She is super friendly with people which is a
great surprise as we live in Ballard and we can't walk down the block
three feet, it seems, without someone stopping to give her some love.

We're working on the basics like potty training and learning her new
name and things are going well. She's also adjusting to sleeping in her
own bed and spending weekdays on her own. She has lots of toys for
activity during the day and evenings are very fun with a long long walk
which is as good for us as it is for her. We bought her a fleece
sweater and a rain coat, yesterday, so the walks will continue through
the winter. We think it's only fair since she's so good at home all
day.

The vet put her on a week of antibiotics for her sneeze and it has
subsided. She seems to be feeling fabulous and we don't need to go to
the vet for six months, unless something comes up, when we'll run a
heartworm test. The vet has her vaccination records and a copy of her
rabies certificate. We love our vet as she's amazing with small dogs
and Brio was a little trooper. Dr. Vogt thinks she's in great shape and
should be a great little pet.

We couldn't be happier with her. If any of your staff are ever in the
neighborhood, give us a ring and come visit. Thank you so much!

Subject: Welcome Brio!

Hi!

Here's a couple of pic's of Brio, people think she is a Poodle/Italian
Greyhound mix and she is around 2 years old, but she was a stray so we
won't know for sure. The vet says she has a little respiratory
infection but a series of antibiotics should clear that up quickly.
Thank goodness it's not kennel cough. Other than that she's in great
shape. Vet says she only needs to gain a pound. She's a whopping 8.1
lbs. right now.

We're all settling in just fine, she is pretty mellow and just want's to
hang out on the lap of whoever is sitting down. She's very friendly
with people (adores old ladies, funny!) and is good on the leash so
we're having a great time cruising the neighborhood. She pees on the
sidewalk which makes us sad because we think that means she's been
around a lot of concrete. She loves the grass in the backyard, though,
so that will change.

We'll send some more pictures when her hair grows out more, she has kind
of a bad shelter shave job right now. Woo Hoo, we have a dog!!

Tully joins McGiver in his new home!

The "boys, Tully and McGiver are getting along great.  Tully is a nice addition to the family.  The white cat hair though....  Right-click here to download pictures. To help protect your privacy, Outlook prevented automatic download of this picture from the Internet.
We are seeing a change in McGiver, he is more social and playful, which is fun to watch.  He even likes Jess more.  Attached are  a couple pictures for you.  The boys together and one of Tully after a very hard day of playing.  I think he is pretty happy here too.
Thanks again for the help.
Rhonda and Jess

(McGiver was adopted from Homeward about a year and a half ago. His owners thought that he could use a buddy so they fostered Tully and then adopted him as it was a match made in heaven!-Laurel)

Jack update

It's been awhile, but just in case you were curious, Jack and I are
doing well as we pass our 6 month anniversary. I've discovered he's a
beach dog and he likes nothing better than going to Shilshole and
running up and down along the beach, barking at the waves, digging in
the sand, or smelling the seaweed.

Quite by accident, I discovered a trainer who deals with "troubled"
dogs. I was going away for a long weekend back in May and needed
someone to walk Jack while I was away and while my daughter was at work.
The dog walker I hired didn't work out (she couldn't get the leash on
and off Jack without him losing it) but recommended a friend who works
at the Woodland Park Zoo as a zoologist and trainer. She's been working
with Jack since May and has done a great job in starting to get him
socialized with other dogs and people. In fact, I just had a dinner
party last Friday and Jack was a saint, and someone commented on "what a
mellow dog" he was, as he sat by my side all evening.

He and I have also just finished our second agility class last Sunday.
I don't know if he's an "agility" dog, but he certainly likes the work
and I think the structured exposure to other dogs and people is good for
him too. Anyway, he's gained 12 lbs. in 4 months(!!) so I need to watch
out for that but he's still within his weight limits. We still take our
walks around Greenlake and 3 days of the week, he goes for walks with
his trainer/walker too.

He's a really great dog and we're both doing well. Thanks for taking
care of him till we found each other! -- Arlene

Update on Duke the dog!

Hello Friends at Homeward Pet!

My husband and I wanted to give you an update on Duke!  We adopted him on 9/6/08 and are so happy we have him!  He seems to have adjusted well from his previous country life, to his now city life.  We are very pleased with how well behaved he is.  We still plan to enroll him in obedience class as there are just a couple things we would still like to train him on.  He is the most well-tempered, patient, and affectionate dog despite his size.  He LOVES socializing with people and other dogs.  We took him to a dog park and a short road trip last week and he was just in heaven.  We’ve also discovered that he is extremely smart and a quick learner – we taught him how to shake in 10 minutes!!  We feel so lucky to have such a sweet natured dog in our lives and look forward to coming home to him every night.

Thank you so much Homeward Pet for enriching our lives with such a loving creature!

I’ve pasted a few pictures of Duke below.  Enjoy!  J

All the best!

Bella

We adopted Bella on August 30, 2008, just one week ago.

She is really fitting into our family and we are having a great time with her around.  She loves to run, take walks, snuggle, bark, and play constantly.  She has also learned to ring the cow bell to come in the house.  :)

I attached a photo of her with our kids on their first day of school.

Thanks,
Pam, Eric, Alyson and Grace Zackula

Happy Tails: Carlos!

We wanted to let you know that Carlos is doing great here in his new home.  He is learning very quickly what he is and isn't allowed to do.  We were just to the vet and he is doing great....just a little eye infection.  He is a very good boy when it comes to putting in the eye drops.  Carlos is great with the girls.  My youngest doesn't pay too much attention to him, so he doesn't pay much attention to her either...unless she is eating something.  We are working on teaching him not to beg.  My older daughter is very good with him.  She helps to feed him and plays with him.  He is a bit much for Sidney sometimes....she is twelve after all.  She hasn't played this much in a long time!  He is learning the command 'drop' (he is really doing great with this command considering how possessive, in a playful way, he was with his toys), 'down' and we are starting to work a little bit with 'stay'.  He is walking great on leash and loves his walks.  He is such a smart boy!  We are absolutely thrilled to have him with us.  We have already fallen in love with him and it's only been just over a week since he came 'home'.  We think the feelings are mutual.

Thank you for taking such good care of Carlos until we found him and brought him home.

"Baby"

L ori  ,

We received your call, checking up on how “Baby” is doing.  Her name is now Annie, and she’d doing just great!  She’s been to the vet, who suggested we get her up to about 40 lbs (she was 37).  Her back right leg has been damaged, so we may get that x-rayed sometime, but she’s obviously learned how to work around that.  She’s a sweetheart and we just love her.  Our last dog, who was a german shepherd/border collie mix, recently died, so the biggest adjustment for us has been getting used to a quiet little girl who hardly ever makes a peep, when we’ve had such a big boisterous ball of energy who never stopped talking J

We have found that we can’t let her off the leash at all, even in our own yard, because she immediately takes off down the road/across the road, through the woods, wherever.  We have a 100’ cable run, and she’s perfectly happy to be outside with us and still be hooked to that.  We have also discovered that we can’t leave food on the counter – yesterday she ate half of a large pizza!  Oops!  J  She seems to have an iron stomach though, as she never did get sick – but she did look pretty miserable, all stretched out on the couch all evening.  She’s totally back to normal today though.

Here’s a link to pictures of her.  I think she’s pretty happy J
