Greetings,
Last week we adopted Blizzard and one of the volunteers asked that we let her know how she was doing (sorry I don't recall the name of the volunteer). Well she and we are doing splendidly. She's finally making her way all around her new home and is beginning to relax and show up more.

We renamed her Moonlight which is more fitting to her amazing and luminous personality. We had no idea we were adopting the very best kitty in the world... she's incredibly gentle, truly affectionate and loves to snuggle in bed.

After my last cat of 20 years passed, I swore I'd never have another because I thought any other cat wouldn't hold a candle to my old friend, but Moonlight is exceptional in EVERY way and we are so delighted she's our new kitty.

Basha Update

Hi Will!

We hope you had a wonderful holiday season! We just wanted to write to tell you how wonderful Basha is doing :) She has changed so much, and become a (surprisingly!) calm, yet playful, and loving girl! She has figured out that this is her home, and continues to be more and more comfortable. She loves chewing on all her toys, and actually drops the ball for fetch now! She loves sleeping in front of the fire and on the sofa, preferably with us for pillows. If there is no room for her on the sofa, she will make some! She thinks she's a lap dog - if there is ANY tiny open spot, she will climb up and gradually wiggle around to get us to scoot over and make a space for her. She likes to look at herself in the mirror, and watching her in this snow is so funny - she sticks her nose in it and makes herself sneeze, and she likes to eat it. She completed her dog class at Doggy Haven, and we are now working with another trainer on getting her not to bark at dogs. She doesn't jump up anymore (well, most of the time!) and is usually great meeting new people. She has met my family and my coworkers, and is gradually getting to spend more time with David at work. She's such a quick study, we think that once she can overcome the dog distraction she will enjoy some agility classes! We hope that all of you at Homeward Pet are doing well, and thank you all so much for helping Basha and letting her be a part of our lives!!!

Hello Homeward Pet!

We are LOVE LOVE LOVING our newest family member. He truely is a wonderful little guy. He's fitting in with the family perfectly! We have been to the vet. He, of course, has a clean bill of health. We have not signed up for our doggie training classes...that's on the "to do" list this week. We are having fun taking Peabody on car rides, walks and trips to the pet store.

Here is a picture of Peabody's favorite place to be while Mason (my son) watches cartoons before dinner.

Hello from Sunshine (previously know as Lilac)

Hi,

I just wanted to drop you guys a note about Lilac. My wife and I adopted her on Dec 23rd, so we've had her almost a month. We didn't have a name picked out, but we felt that Lilac just didn't fit. After a couple days, we settled on Sunshine. And she really is a ray of Sunshine! She has tons of energy, and loves to play with all sorts of toys and run around the house at top speed. Sometimes she chases our 7-year old, Pepper. She's settled in quite nicely, and Pepper has even started to like her (mostly!). When she's not exploring or playing with her toys, she loves to cuddle. I don't remember her sister's name, but if she's as sweet as Sunshine is, her new family is in for a real treat!

After two years of volunteering, my daughter met a dog she couldn't resist. We adopted Elmer the same day she told me about him. He gets along with our other dog and tolerates the two cats. He is such a great dog and we adore him. Thanks to Homeward for enriching our lives!

Ms Mia adopted me on Dec 28th, catching my attention when she grabbed my boot and threw a toy at me through her cage door. Mia is thoroughly enjoying her new home and play pal Squeaker. Both have taken to their new surroundings very quickly. MIa is a very sweet kitty always wanting to be in close proximity to someone but not laying on them.

The pair are a wonderful addition to my home and provide endless entertainment and companionship.

Hey Homeward Pet!

Just a quick note to say hello and an update on Chester (formerly known as One-Eyed Jack). I can't believe we adopted him THREE years ago last month! (Here is a picture of him taken this weekend)

Chester is doing amazingly well. He is a huge part of our family and loves to cuddle up next to me on the couch and when we sleep!

We are still so grateful for Homeward Pet for taking care of Chester before we could come and get him :).

Oggy Dog (formerly Bugsy)

My husband and I adopted Oggy Dog a few weeks ago, and she has been an absolute dream! (She didn't respond to the name Bugsy, so we were confident changing her name wouldn't be a problem for her.) She is the sweetest, best dog I have ever owned. She has my husband wrapped around her little paw, which is amazing since he has never owned a dog and was a little wary of the whole idea.

We didn't have a whole lot of information about her, so we weren't sure how she would handle the first night in her new home. We decided to just go to bed, see what she did, and then go from there. She followed us into the bedroom, jumped up on the bed, and curled up at the foot where she sleeps every night. She loves going for rides in the car with us, and is still trying to get Cat to play, but Cat's not having it *grin* Oggy will even take all her toys and pile them up next to sleeping Cat. We're not quite sure if she's sharing or if she thinks Cat is one of her toys and feels the need ot keep them all together in one place!

Thank you so much for the wonderful service we received. Everyone was a joy to work with at Homeward Pet!

We just wanted to send you a quick note and tell you how wonderful the two kittens we adopted from you the beginning of December are. I have attached a photo of Bonnie and Clyde (formally Cindy Lu and Peanut Butter) relaxing by the fire yesterday. They are very happy, healthy and full of energy! They are both a great addition to our family after we lost our 19 year old cat, Tigger the day after Thanksgiving.

We are so blessed to have Buddy in our family! He is a little camera shy but I have attached a photo from the evening we brought him home when he settled down from all the excitement :) The other photo is of Buddy wrapped in a blanket at the height of his cold. He had a cold virus and was Mr. Sneeze for a few days and really enjoyed laying by the fire, being wrapped up and cuddled-the latter being our favorite! He is feeling tip top now and is so welcoming when the family comes home from work or school, I'm not sure how we survived this long without such love. Buddy loves to play with his chew toys, go for walks and snuggle. He is always where ever we are in the house and we all love it so so much.

We are truly grateful for the love and dedication of the entire Homeward Pet team, thank you for caring as much about Buddy's fit with us, as ours with him. He really has found his forever home!

Indy (Formerly Troubadour)

Indy, formerly Troubadour, is doing great and is the perfect addition to our household.

He adapted very quickly to his new home and loves to explore and climb everything. We ended up getting him a tall cat tree so he could have a good outlet for climbing. Because of his inquisitive/adventurous nature, we re-named him Indy after Indiana Jones. One of our favorite quirks about Indy (other than his giant purr and tiny meow) is that he loves playing fetch. It amazes me every time he drops a toy into my lap and retrieves after I throw it.

We are so thankful to have been able to adopt Indy and make him a member of the family!

My family has adopted 3 cats from Homeward Pet--two young girls about 14 months ago, and a little boy right after Thanksgiving. It took the girls (from different litters) exactly two days to get used to each other, and they've been buddies ever since. It was a different story with Alex, our newest family member, an orange tabby. After two weeks of the girls hissing and swatting under the door of the room where Alex was staying, we found that heavy applications of Feliway Spray helped reduce anxiety and aggression significantly. Sasha, our tortoiseshell, loves to play and sleep with Alex and is careful to keep her claws sheathed during their light tussles. Molly, our sleek black teenager, is much more feisty and it's no holds barred when the two of them go at each other. Alex will often approach Molly cautiously and present his head for grooming, closing his eyes in ecstasy if she deigns to comply. They are a true joy for the entire family, and we are grateful for their presence every day.

It's been about a month since I adopted Rudy and he has been a really wonderful addition to our home. It took a day or two for my Chihuahua to get used to having another dog in the house but now one of her favorite things to do is play chase at Marymoor park with him. Rudy was very perplexed to meet my cat but now he just maintains a healthy curiousity around her (he goes up to her sometimes and sniffs for about 10 seconds before they both walk away). He LOVES to go for walks and he has such amazing energy and spirit. He is super friendly and loves to cuddle. His favorite thing to do is burrow under the covers or any throw that might be on my couch. He's also discovered his new favorite treat - chicken feet. I know it sounds disgusting but he goes crazy for them. The pet store right across the street from work sells them so he is in luck! Rudy starts his obedience training next week. Thanks Homeward Pet - you are a great organization! We love Rudy so much!

We brought Tess Home on Oct 4 @ about 9 wks old... On Oct 2nd she had been spayed and weighed 2.2 lbs. This new Year Jan 3rd she wieghs 5 lbs... has been to the groomers for a "sanitary" clip (this is my first long haired cat... I had no idea a.... brazilian for kitties) loves to be combed, can fetch and she loves her 10 yr old roomie Twelve (yes his name is a number) and he tolerates her. They play but he is the boss. She is a delight every day. She is a cuddler and loves company. Just the kind of cat we were looking for. Thanks for Our little Princess Tess

We had just said we were not going to get another dog for awhile when we walked by the Homeward Pet booth at The Mill Creek Town Center in August. Joe wasn't even out of the van yet but the crazy picture of him made us ask questions. Well questions turned into visiting which turned into adopting. Joe has been a show stopper everywhere we go. With his crazy looks, we had to keep his crazy name-Joe DiMaggio. It took Joe no time at all to start ruling the house. We took Joe to training and he surprised everyone as almost everyone there knew Joe before we adopted him. His hair is finally filling in and adding more character to his personality.

Bringing Lulu home was the most natural thing imaginable. She didn't fuss or howl during the 20 minute car ride. Once inside she acted like this was just what she expected. While we got off to a smooth and great start, the best part has been getting to know each other as our relationship deepens. She's now been running and playing about the house for nearly two weeks. With all the clever toys I purchased and entice her to play with, she can spend hours batting at her shadow on the hardwood floor. Who knew?

Greetings,

It’s been a little over two days that we've had the privilege of being Corrin's parents. Since Corrin wasn't her previous given name we decided to change it to Pippa. We are delighted to have this precious animal in our lives.

The night we brought her home, Pippa did remarkably well. Her appetite was light; not unusual due to the circumstance and new surroundings. When it was time for bed we put her in another room from us with the door closed. Pippa quickly went to sleep, but 2 hours later woke up scared. We followed your advise and put a leash with the other end tied to the bed post. It worked like a charm! Great advise.

The next morning, she ate fairly well and played outside. We've discovered Pippa has a real liking for squirrels. We kept Pippa very busy since leaving the shelter. She been to the doggy spa for a bath and nail trimming, she been to store and picked out two comfy beds. Pippa went to the vet this morning and everything checkout OK, the vet believes she might be full lab not mix.

We have also schedule her for doggy obedience training starting the first of the year.

Ava, as you can see from the pics and within just 1 day, has taken over my favorite very comfy man-cave chair. She also is discovering the bird feeder and enjoying football on the TV. I hope I can some day pull the remote control from her grasp. She is eating/sleeping very well along with having a tons of energy running up and down the stairs. About 2 months ago today we formally adopted Ms Marilyn the white Persian with the pink purse. She has settled in quite well at our home and even though she doesnt get along with other cats she is very tolerating of our sweet orange boy or maybe he is more tolerating of her. Either way, we are all doing well. Its fun to watch her transformation from shelter cat to home/house cat. She has many different sleeping spots, enjoys sitting/sleeping with her people and has found her appetite again. She is involving her self more and more with the people around her and has lots of kisses/licks to share with us. Thank you Laurel for suggesting her to us and thank you HPAC for taking care of Marilyn for almost a year until she found her home with us. The transition was seamless.

8 years ago today we adopted our sweet heart Orange boy Rudy. He wasn't even on the adoption floor yet but in the intake room. We fell in love with him as soon as we held him and the purring began. He was quite the sight as he had all his fur shaved off due to fleas and fur issues and as you all know when a cat is wet or shaved they are quite tiny/thin looking. We brought him home despite his appearance and he turned into the most beautiful cat and the sweetest. Thank you so much HPAC for finding these truly adoptable animals and saving their lives to allow them to enrich ours.

When Gayle & I adopted Oscar in July, he was just over 3 months old, and weighed 4 lbs. Today our little orange guy is 8 months old and a not so little 11 lbs. He has been such a FANTASTIC new member of our family. What a sweet cat! And he has fit in perfectly with our other cat, Boo. They get lots of exercise together chasing and wrestling.

We just wanted to check in with you and let you know Oscar is doing great, and we thank you again for everything Homeward Pet does for rescue animals. We spread the word about your organization constantly. Hope your new facility is working grand, and sometime in 2012 we can stop by to see it.

Hello Laurel, We are writing to give you an update on our lovely little kitty Mia (Farina). She has been the sweetest girl since we got her a month ago. She and our other kitty Joey have been getting along great. It took them a few days to figure each other out, but since then they have been buddies. They are pretty cute playing with each other. Mia likes to sit behind the curtain to our patio door and poke her toes out for Joey to try to get. Joey has definitely benefited from us adopting her. We have noticed that his separation anxiety issues have gotten so much better with her around. Thank you so much for helping us adopt our little sweetheart. She has been the perfect addition to our little family.

I had been looking for a medium energy, large dog over the last couple of months by visiting several rescues and humane societies. Of course, all the dogs in the kennels were very excited to see anyone come visit. When I saw BB's posting I visited Homeward Pet again to see her. When I first saw her she just waking up from a nap and didn't seem to care what was going on even though the other dogs were going crazy. I took her for a walk and she was a dream; right by my side the entire time. I even got to put her back in her kennel which was so easy even while all the other dogs were still going crazy. I came back a couple of days later and she was still there. Since then we have been walking a lot and getting her socialized to other dogs and humans so she can be calm and respectful. She has made such an easy adjustment and I feel so fortunate to have gotten to adopt her. She goes everywhere with me and is patient and calm while I go into stores or get a coffee. Crate
training was a breeze and I even broke the code on getting her to be more treat driven. Next project is retrieving and recall so we can let her do more running and jumping. She is such a sweet dog. Thank you Homeward Pet for such a great companion.

My wife and I stopped by your shelter earlier this year. We had lost my golden retreiver and the father of my boy. He was very close to both his mom and dad, we lost his mom 2 years ago.
He was very lonely and I could see he was depressed. So my wife says lets go to Homeward Pet and she if we find him a new partner in crime. I am very much an animal lover and wanted to take all doggies home with me, but after looking and introducing him to several worthy parnters, he kinda choose Wonderwomen, I wanted a Lab and a black lab she was.
At first they didnt seem to care, My wife kept Wonderwomen at her house for about 2 weeks, she was an absolutle proper lady. She was house broken, good appetite, and very playful.
I brought her home to my house and to Mr. Mellow, they did the usual doggie dancing. After about 20 minutes they settled down. She loves the park, riding in the doggie truck, sitting in the front seat where she isnt suppose to be, but those big brown eyes, oh well. They both are inseparable, so I wanted to let all of you know that Wonderwomen is now Kamalani, in hawaiian it means "child of a god". I know she will have the life all animals should have healthy,happy and safe. I love her to death, Thank you so much Homeward Pet, I may be by for another trouble maker soon.

Our Friends at Homeward Pet,

Lily has been with us for almost 7 weeks and she has adapted to her new home and our lifestyle very well. Jim, our Homeward Pet counselor, did an outstanding job in assisting us during the selection/adoption process. He felt she, a senior dog, was the best fit of the dogs we looked at and he was definitely spot on. Since we are senior citizens, it was refreshing to have a dog enter our lives requiring almost no training.

I haven't adopted any animals from this shelter yet, but my friend was fostering some puppies, Izzabell, Bernard, Cinnamon, Jack, and Patches. They were darling! I just wanted to tell everyone at homeward pet that I am so thankful to have you. You put so much time into these animals and i'm honestly speechless. My friends and I are doing a supply drive for Homeward Pet at our school. We are doing this because we want to support everything you do to help these animals find a new home. Propellar (Prop) and Princess

Dear Homeward Pet Staff,

Michael and Roberta were brought, as kittens, to your facility from Yakima in late December of 2008. Our beloved cat of 20 years had passed in January, 2009, bringing tears and sadness for weeks on end; a painful void. Soon, pictures of cats of all ages and sizes were arriving in email as my husband embarked on a mission to restore joy in our lives and in our home. Under the guise of a dinner out, Scott drove us directly to Homeward Pet to meet Michael and Roberta instead. Our meeting was love at first sight! Michael, now Propellar (Prop), was first to check us out and get a few pets while Roberta, now Princess, viewed from the top of her perch. Soon she came down to join in the affection and show her curious side. Propellar earned his name that moment as he swung his head round and round while we played with toys; Princess earned hers from the top of her throne overlooking her kingdom prior to deciding to come down to meet us.

We left with cats in tow in borrowed travel accommodations, toys, a blanket, and some food. Our new family bonded quickly and today, and everyday, we can't believe how much we smile, love, and cherish them. We are whole once again.

Congratulations on your new facility and thank you ALL for ALL you do for these precious animals!

what a challenge

I have two pets from Homeward Pets. Tinker and KittyFluff/Zelda, Also added a kitty to the family and that has been a challenge. Kitty/Zelda is trying to get used to a kitty but is not quite there, Same for Tinker. I got a small kitten about 2 weeks ago. Kitten is manx mixed. playful and very active, and he can run. He at the stage where he tests everybody. He has even taken over the cat tree for the time being. Zelda /kitty don't think is too happy about that. Tinker will bark at the kitty but thats about it for the time being.

Hello dear friends in Homeward Pet!

It has been one month since we adopted our Jane the Doberman, and we are the happiest family since! She is a true treasure, gentle and loving soul and the most obedient and pleasing doggy ever. From the day one Jane was our girl as we have raised her from a puppy. She loves everything we love, and it's so easy and natural to share our lives together. Jane is unbelievably peaceful, friendly and polite with all people and dogs at the streets and parks, we get lots of compliments (and Jane gets tons of caresses) wherever we go with her. It took a little time to learn how to play with other dogs in off-leash parks, but Jane is a fast learner and she's started making friends and gaining popularity among local doggies as a great chase partner. Still, she prefers to stay close to us and play with us :-) We started our training class in Doggy Heaven Resort last Sunday, and we are going to work hard to catch up with our dog, as our trainer Brie said.

We would like to share a few pictures, it was really hard to select and limit the number of pics we wanted to send. Jane is so funny and sweet model, we have taken hundreds of pictures with her.

Dear Homeward Pet staff,

We are having a great time with Barney. He is such a good dog and will respond to most of the basic commands, stay, sit, come, down and, best of all, "no". When we walk him, which is several times each day, he is friendly to all - people and animals. He is not a big eater but mostly a nibbler throughout the day. Barney loves to sit on his mom's lap and cuddle, which makes her happy. He is happy with just three toys, and loves to run and retrieve his favorite, a ball. Since he was groomed, a week after we brought him home, he has looked much like a full Shih Tzu. We are so glad we went to Homeward Pets and have told everyone who is interested, and that's a lot of people. We highly recommend that other people follow our example and check out your new location.

When I came to work my volunteer shift one Friday morning at HPAC, I met little Daisy. She had just been surrendered the evening before and was so confused and scared that she melted my heart. Since we already had two toy poodles at home, I felt that we could provide the perfect home for this little 6 pound bundle of energy and love. Upon approval of Abby and Max (our two other canine residents) and my husband, Daisy came to our home the next morning as a foster and four days later as a full adopted member. She assimilated immediately, learning the feeding, potty, and play routines of the family. She gives lots of love and laughs and it gives us great joy to know that we have changed her life for the better, and she ours.

Ratchet & Socket

My brother and I came to our new home from your shelter on Oct. 1st. I was known to you as Onyx and my brother was Garnet. I am now Socket and he is Ratchet. Yes, we're named after tools because our new last name is pronounced wrench. Our new owners have a weird sense of humor but it's okay because we really like it here! They put us in a room at the back of the house with a new cat tree, two litter boxes, some toys and food. Well, that was great for the first hour or so but we wanted to explore the large dwelling beyond. We made our escape quickly to the rest of the house and since we were already comfortable with our new family we were allowed to roam. My new family quickly realized that I am the huntress of the litter. I love to stalk, leap, twist in the air and take down my prey! I tried to tell them this at the shelter when I lept from the shoulders of my new dad all the way back into my cage but I guess they were slow to pick up on my skill and agility. I've noticed
they sometimes "let" Ratchet catch the feather toy. He's not as skilled as me in the hunting department. It's okay, we all love him anyway. At least he likes to play with me though sometimes I have to bite him on the ear to wake him up from a nap. Don't get me wrong, I like naps too but that boy can sleep away more than one play opportunity. Anyway, thanks for taking care of us as kittens, Homeward. We're very happy in our new home. Oh, did you know our new home has two dwarf hamsters? Mom and dad won't let us play with them though. Watch but don't touch is the rule. Darn!

My turn, I'm Ratchet. I feel I must defend myself. It's not that I'm not as skilled as Socket when it comes to hunting, it's just I consider all that leaping and twisting silly and ridiculous. Honestly, you should see her. I'd much rather explore all the nooks and crannies of my new home and then take a nap on the soft couch with the sun streaming through the window. And besides, I can take her in any wrestling match we get into. My new mom says I am growing by leaps and bounds and will probably be a big boy one day. She also says I am a talker so this means my vocabulary is far above that of Socket. So yes, perhaps she is more street smart than me but we're inside cats. We don't need street smarts, Socket. She's still my best friend and I'm happy we were adopted together.

I cannot express how wonderful it has been to have Kona (known at the shelter as "Charlie) as our family member.

We brought Kona home in late July. My husband and I had been ready to adopt for a few months but had waited until our summer vacations were over so we would have focused home time to spend with our new doggy friend. One Saturday we plotted a course of shelter visits and went on our way. I had heard about Homeward Pet via a few co-workers who had adopted from Homeward Pet and had wonderful things to say about the organization. Homeward Pet was the second stop on our shelter route.

We have a vivacious male Rat Terrier Bijou (also a shelter dog) and had in our mind that we would be getting a large mellow female to balance his energy out. Kona was neither female, or large, but there was just something about him when he looked up at us though the shelter pen that made us take a second look and give a second thought to what we "thought" we wanted. We took Kona for a walk, spent a little time with him, him and Bijou met in the outdoor greet area, and after the whole family spent some time together, we decided to take him home.

What a wonderful decision it was. Bijou and Kona are as compatible a pair as anyone could hope for. Bijou was also a rescue and it took us months and months to integrate smoothly into our home, for Kona it was a matter of weeks, he fits in so well.

I can't put into words what a great fit Kona is for our family, so sweet, smart and cuddly. He's been out on hiking and camping trips and has no desire to be anywhere but by our side. In the evenings he's cuddle up on our lap or with Bijou. During the days he's busy guarding the house from "evil doers" or rough housing with Bijou.

Thank you Homeward Pet! You are doing an amazing job at taking care of dogs (and cats too!), providing them shelter, and helping to find them happy homes. Kona has his "forever home" and we are forever grateful!

My adoption diary

My new owner took me to my new home three days ago and stuck me in a bathroom. It was nice and quiet, but nothing to DO there, so I immediately asked to be let out and explore. I wandered the whole house, checking for security leaks. I found none, but there were a bunch of closed doors. Fortunately, two hours later my owner's sister came by, and wanted to store some stuff in a room behind one of those closed doors, so I immediately followed her into that room and checked for security leaks there as well. I also got to climb a fake Christmas tree. There is also a nice linen closet ...

My new owner looked pretty silly taking me to a scratching post and trying to scratch on it, so I had to show him how it is really done. However, there is plenty of good food here, so I heartily recommend the place to other cats; just remember who is boss at this house ... I have established a nice relationship with the iRobot Roomba; I clean out the dust bunnies in the corners, and the Roomba picks up the rest of the stuff.

I have to spend my time following the owner around, seeing that he doesn't get into trouble. My owner's computer has a mouse problem, so I have installed anti-mouse software (as you can see from the picture), and I vigilantly monitor the situation.

Happy Dog… I’m a happy dog!! This…is Lucy, a year old Corgi-mix we adopted five months ago in March from ‘Homeward Pet’ shelter in Woodinville. Here at the beach, she played until she was tired out, then she settled into the shade behind my husband’s beach chair while we ate our picnic lunch (shared, of course). We really enjoy this wonderful dog we adopted from your facility in March.

Baxter- AKA Lucky

My husband and I adopted "Lucky", a little tri-dapple doxy about 6 weeks ago from Homeward Pet. We just adore him! We gave him a new name, Baxter, and he is an absolute joy! He is such a well mannered dog, and so smart, too! He has already learned to stay on his blanket while we eat dinner, and he stays in his doggie bed in our room all night without wandering. He also became crate trained very easily - he even waits in his crate in the morning when he hears his special "crate treat" (a kong ball with treats inside) being prepared. He loves to sit on laps (and sleep on laps!), and when he is feeling frisky, he loves to pounce on his toys and chase after them when they are thrown (we haven't quite learned "fetch" yet :).

We just wanted to update you that Baxter seems very happy and healthy and how well he has fit into our family. We couldn't have "ordered" a more perfect dog for us! I look forward to snuggling with him when I come home from work

Hi Laurel,

The kittens are doing wonderful and have adjusted really well to the house and our dogs. We've been keeping them in our large laundry room/mudd room because we didn't want them to get lost in our big house. We plan on moving them to one floor soon. Our golden retriever just loves them and is very playful and affectionate. Our shepard mix is curious, mostly stays out of their way but the kittens go to her a lot, sniffing and walking right under her nose. She just lays there watching them. The cats love her dog bed and lay in it all the time when she's not there. We bought a very tall cat stand with 2 cat scratchers attached, it has 3 levels with two beds. They absolutely love it! The kids just love having them and spend lots of time with them. Both cats are very verbal and purr so easily when we're around...we really love them.

Please tell the original owners they are welcome to email me anytime, I would be happy to send pictures.

Dear Jim,
As you may recall we adopted Mollie last week Sunday (9/4). We got her home safely to Bend (she's a great car rider). She seems to love it here and we sure love having her. She just seems to want to please. We've got her into our vet for a thorough exam to which she happily and calmly submitted. She got a clean bill of health and the vet was truly impressed with the services you folks provided. Because she was adopted there was no charge from the vet and we have her scheduled for ongoing services. We're in the process of lining up a trainer.
We want to thank you all and Jim in particular for everything you did.
We feel like we have won the Lottery and we think Mollie feels the same.

Hello: Just wanted to give you an update on our recent adoption of Ivy. She adjusted amazingly well and joined us out of her safe room after just one night. She is super friendly with us all and LOVES the girls. They play together so much and there is lots of laughter and giggles coming from wherever it is that they are playing. Ivy is a gentle girl with an amazingly tender personality. We are loving every second of her.

Attached are just a few pictures of Ivy with my youngest, Gemma rolling on the gymnastics mat together. The other two are ones of just Ivy.

Thank you so much for helping us find her, she is the perfect addition to our family. Ivy has her check up tomorrow morning with our vet and we look forward to continued love and happiness for a lifetime ahead.

Hello to everyone at Homeward Pet,

On July 6th, we came to Homeward Pet looking for a dog. We were very impressed with the caring and kindness that we saw in all of the staff as we discussed what kind of dog we were looking for and you interviewed us to be sure that we would be a good forever family for one of your dogs. It was "love at first sight" when we held Izzy and she licked our faces- we are a perfect match for each other.

Izzy was 21/2 months old when we got her and she weighed 6 lbs. She is now 4 months old and weighs 13 lbs. She attended "Puppy Preschool" at Doggy Haven (thanks to your suggestion and coupon)) and is now enrolled in "Star Puppy Class" and doing very well. She is much smaller than all the other dogs, but has no fear and chases them all around at playtime - it has become apparent that she has a fair amount of "terrier" in her. As you can see, she is adorable!!!!!!! She is wonderful with our 2 grandchildren and is adored by everyone she meets.

We are so grateful to all of you at Homeward Pet for the wonderful work you do to help care for and find good homes for the many animals in need and for bringing us (her forever family) together with Izzy (our forever dog).

Widget and Elliot (now ZuZu and Pippin) are such wonderful buddies. For being the runt of his litter, Pippin is the ringleader of these two, always on the move--climbing up screens, over countertops! He loves to retrieve sparkle balls when he's not putting them in his litter box or water bowl or BOTH, which makes for a very disgusting sparkle ball. ZuZu actually defers to him, though I tell her to be a more assertive female as she watches Pippin eat all of his food AND hers. She loves to groom him. I can't imagine NOT having two kitties.

We adopted Silvio (formerly Brody) on Sept. 2nd. As you can see, he has settled in quite well. We weren't sure of how well our existing cat, Cordelia would feel about him. She was a bit unsure on the first day we let them spend some time together when he pushed her out of the way and started eating her food. Silvio is a very playful, brave and curious kitten. He just loves Cordelia and follows her everywhere. She is warming up to him a bit more each day. They seem to love chasing each other around the house. I have no doubt that one day we'll come home from work and find them snuggled up together.

Hi everyone at Homeward Pet!! I am the proud owner of Little Win a.k.a Winifred. She is doing great now that she has adapted to our home. We had a rocky start at first because she was not getting along with our other cat Gizzy but now they are best friends. They sleep together, eat together, and no more hissing (yay)!!! They play with each other and chase each other around the house. Little Win is a very cute cat. If you are on the computer laying down on the floor she loves to come up to you, lay on your chest and cuddle with you. She also loves to cuddle up around our heads at night. I've attached a few pictures of Little Win and of our other cat Gizzy.

Hello,

  Our family adopted Elizabeth, a sweet 1 year old tabby cat, last week. I wanted to send the wonderful, friendly staff at Homeward Pet a quick update and let you know how Elizabeth is doing. On Elizabeth's first 3 days here, she spent most of her time exploring every nook and cranny of the house. She walked around carefully and made sure that she sniffed every wall, table, carpet, and piece of furniture that she encountered while exploring! On Saturday, we took Elizabeth for her free wellness checkup at the Redmond-Kirkland Animal Hospital. Elizabeth received her second deworming treatment and was given a clean bill of health by her doctor.

Elizabeth is quite familiar with her new home now and is always purring. She loves to play with feathers, colorful balls, or her catnip-filled mouse. At night, Elizabeth finds a cozy spot on someone's bed and likes to snuggle up against any one of her new family members! Her favorite place for sightseeing is on a window sill, where she loves to look outside at the trees, listen to the sound of birds, or intently watches little insects flying around outside under the patio light.

  Elizabeth is loved very much and is a very happy and cute kitty. She has brought so much joy to us and we are grateful to the staff at Homeward Pet for helping us to find the perfect pet for our family. Her personality is exactly what you had described - both playful and very sweet. Thank you again and we look forward to keeping in touch.

We adopted Patrick on Wednesday 8/24/2011. We dubbed him Dewey. He shares a home with an eight year old Bengal female, Missy.

For their first non-barrier meet Missy showed a preference for stealth by hiding in the basket and slapping Dewey with repeated, lightning quick jabs, as he went by. Dewey completely and immediately capitulated by falling to the floor, rolling over, and making whirring sounds. That was Sunday.

By Tuesday Dewey was sidling up to Missy and kneading her in the ribs. There is some chase. It would seem Dewey wants more of that. He seems to taunt. There are attempts by Missy to groom Dewy. Dewey’s outgoing charm was just too much for Missy to ignore.

He is adorable and we’re very happy we found each other.

We adopted Patrick yesterday. We’ve dubbed him Dewey. He’s got a wonderful temperment, very social and vocal, lots of whirring noises and demure meows. He seems to have acclimated very quickly. There was no interruption in his eating or potty routine. He has his own new toys and space (cage) with a towel from the shelter, in his own room, for now. We have an older lady, Missy, a 7 year old Bengal. We are introducing slowly. She is well aware of his presence but he seems oblivious. He’s going to be a joy and we hope he’ll keep Missy busy and they’ll be buddies.

In May 2011, I was just browsing Homeward Pet cat adoption site and never thought I would be ready to adopt another cat until I saw Georgio

with his sister Chanel! We changed their names, Vincent for Giorgio and Mitten for Chanel. It was a little challenging in the beginning for them to adjust, they just seemed very scared and always trying to hide. Three months later, they finally come out from their shells.. Vincent is just such an awesome cat with a "Super Star" personality, he demands a lot of attention and he's not shy about it. It was very easy to make him purr really loud! Mitten is still a shy quiet little cat who loves to play.

I just want to thank you for helping me to meet my new family members!!

They bring so much joy to our house! I love them both!

Grape (AKA Gabe)

In 2007 we welcomed a Black Lab to our home from Homeward Pet. Grape (AKA Gabe) has been a wonderful addition to our family. I've attached a photograph of Grape frolicking with our son, in a stream in Northern Idaho, where he has been many times.

Here at Priest Lake Grape enjoys fetching tennis balls all day long --- I estimate that he swims about a mile a day (!) for our August vacation. He also goes hiking with us, up mountains and along the lake. Lately I've seen some signs that Grape is becoming a senior dog, but his health is good, his coat is glossy, and his tail wags every time I come home to greet him.

Grape is a dear member of our family. Thank you for help us find each other.

I got Kiki (her name in the shelter was Loki) around May. At first I was worried that she and my 1st cat, Jacob, wouldn't get along, but as time passed, they became more and more friendly. Now they even clean each other's fur. Kiki is such a lover cat, she likes to take naps around me and will let me pet/hold her for as long as I want. Jacob even lets me pet him more than before...

Stanley and Dorothy are doing very well. Stan is very brave and not afraid of anything, he loves the dog and is really good with kids. My husband and I headed over to Homeward Pet last Saturday and ended up adopting "Charlie". We have since named him Kona. There was just something about him that "clicked" with us as soon as we saw him. It's only been a few days but we can tell it's going to be a long, happy life for all of us! He is such a wonderful dog, we are so excited and grateful to have him!!
Attached are a few pics with him and our other dog Bijou, who incidentally was also a shelter dog we adopted 5 years ago from the humane society in Vancouver. They get along wonderfully; they are playing by my feet as I'm writing this. Yay!

You all do such wonderful work there. My boss also adopted her dog from you last year and has nothing but wonderful things to say about you. Thank you so much! A HUGE thanks also to Juliet, she helped us with the adoption.

I adopted Zela and she is doing good, she is getting to know the place quite well. Loves to be held and lots of petting. Dear Homeward Pet,

We are the proud family that adopted Sarge. He is doing fine…all 27 pounds of him. We changed his name to Lenny and he is responding well. So far it has been a smooth transition with our 2 cats, 8 year olds Mocha & Gatsby. We are very excited that Lenny is part of our family. He is such a big lover boy. We live in a 2 story home so hopefully using the stairs will aid in his weight loss.

That's about it for now. Lenny is currently laying on the king size bed taking a nap.

Chase is living the good life! He sleeps in our bed with us but spends a little time in the crate every day so he"ll remain comfortable to be in it when necessary. He is such a good boy. Quite the celebrity with everyone we know. Slowly but surely increasing in his zest for life and adventure! He's a good sleeper too!

We have had Bob now for two months and we are so glad he is part of our household. He has been hiking, camping and canoeing with us and has no problem with his injured leg. He has even been to Canada with us. He is also quite the lap dog! We're glad he adopted us!

We adopted a elder black lab, named Happy on February 16, 2008. We renamed him Murphy. He died this past week after a long life of 14-16 years. He is already missed. Thank you, Murphy, for being part of our family.

Alvin!

We adopted Alvin,(now named Bosley)a week ago. It has amazed us at how fast
he has adapted to us and how fast he and our 4 year old cat have adapted to
each other. Alvin made no bones about the fact that he did not want to stay
in his room all the time, by escaping every chance he had!

He and our other cat Bingley have become friends and where one can be found
the other is close by. We had to put our 16 year old cat to sleep 2 months
ago and Bingley definitely seemed sad, but since Bosley has joined our
family, Bingley is a different kitty.

Thanks for making the process of adopting him go so smoothly. We are loving
having him part of the family!

Dear Homeward Pet,

Sammi and Tillie (previously Meg) have certainly found their forever home!

They are well adjusted, healthy, playful kittens who enjoy getting into everything. They have claimed a brown chair in our living room as their own- and make sure we know it's theirs. Sammi is more of a people cat who has a great love of food. She'll follow you around the house hoping that you'll slide her some extra food or a treat and she will never let you miss a meal time. Tillie is our little playful girl. She'll walk around the house with her feather toy in her mouth to get people to swish it back and forth for her to chase. Both girls love playing hide and seek in the crinkle kitty tube we bought them. Since we brought them home, the girls are hardly far from each other-so much so we now affectionately call them the little bookends. We are looking forward to watching them grow up and become full grown cats!

Our family is extremely glad we adopted our two baby girls from you. Your staff was very knowledgeable and helped us to find our purrrfect pair of kittens. The book we took home has already helped us with the kitties and taught us so much. We took the kittens to the vet and they were in excellent health. We can't thank you enough!

We adopted Mouse and Dash together in the summer of 2010.
It has been almost a year, and they are loving their new home and our family is loving them!
They are inseparable, and together they get into trouble.....hourly.
We have enjoyed watching them grow and couldn't imagine our lives without them! They make us laugh (and frown) every day.

I adopted "Obie" on April 17th and he is just too wonderful!! He has made himself totally at home and believe it or not I can wear him out playing ball. When he needs a rest he takes the ball and sits under a tree until he's ready for another go at it.

He's been to the vet for his visit and went to the beauty parlor so a lot of the undercoat was removed. He is truly a beautiful dog and I feel so blessed that he now has a home with me.

Ellie (formerly Pesto)

We adopted our cat Ellie at Homeward Pet back in late February early March. You guys had named her Pesto but we changed her name to Ellie. She started recognizing and coming to her new name very quickly. Our whole family is in love with this cat. She is a loving and affectionate kitty. She loves to cuddle with us and rub her nose and face against ours and get lots of attention. She is beautiful and smart and very frisky and playful. Her favorite game is having us run with a rope behind us while she chases it and tries to catch and bite it. She is an indoor only cat and loves to sit in the window and make strange noises at the birds. She is very talkative and has quite the kitty vocabulary. We have studied her and learned what most of her sounds mean. For example she has the same meow when she wants a treat and she has another type of meow when she wants dinner. She likes to greet me every morning at the bottom of the stairs. If I don’t come down by a certain time, she will march into my bedroom and meow at me. She is always wide awake at 4:00 a.m. meowing for attention. We just ignore and then she starts in again at 6:00 when hubby is awake to get him to feed her. My children are in love with her and she likes to sleep on their beds at night. She spend some of the night with one kid and then the rest of the night with another. Ellie is a lot like a kid in many ways and sometimes she acts like a dog. She loves to play fetch and she follows me around from room to room and always comes when we call her. She knows that she is a kitty and a cat and a fur ball, because she will come running to any of those terms. She has excellent litter box manners and never pees on the rug or anywhere in the house. We cannot thank Homeward Pet enough for giving us Ellie. She is the furry love of our lives and life wouldn’t be the same without her.

My son and I have wanted to adopt a dog for years but because of living situations we were not able to do it. We recently had to move because of a divorce, my son has been devastated by the breakup and depressed to come home to an empty house every day. I knew it was the right time to finally adopt a dog. I looked and looked on Petfinder and Craigslist and when I saw the picture of Isabel I knew she was the one and then to see that she was at my favorite shelter it seemed so meant to be!. We raced to Homeward Pet the following day when I got off of work and the second we met Isabel my son and I looked at each other and said "yes, she is the one". Within one day my sons depression lifted. They are inseparable! She is the cutest, most mellow, lovable dog ever! We love her so much....

Rasta!

Greetings,

From my understanding, around Nov~Dec 2007 you recused a group of animals from Eastern Washington.

One of those dogs was Rasta, a spaniel mix. She was adopted from your facility Dec 7, 2007. I want to give you an update on her. The person who adopted her in Dec couldn't handle Rasta, as she felt Rasta was too "busy". Rasta went to that owners daughter, then to my son. My son couldn't keep 2 dogs at his residence at that time and so we adopted Rasta about 2 years ago.

My husband & I hadn't had a dog in 15 years & we were leary to take her into our home. Let me tell you, she has been a joy for us, she is the sweetest, smartest dog I have been around in a very long time. Many of our friends (and even my son's friends) want to "steal" her and take her home with them. She is loved by so many!!! She is great with people and children, she learns quickly and she wants to please people. I took her through an obedience class and she is also a certified therapy dog through TDI (Therapy Dogs International) She loves to go "read" with the school kids and also go visit at the Retirement Centers.

We have always been curious about her breed and had her DNA done by Wisdom Panel. She is 1/4 spaniel (like we all thought!!!) but to our surprise she is 1/4 Chinese Shar~Pei & 1/2 Bolognese. We think that must be where the soft, fluffy hair comes from.

Thank you to your group for saving Rasta & other animals from being put down and finding homes for them.

Attached are pictures of Dora and Dex, classic American short hair tabbies, we adopted February 5 of this year.

They are doing well.

Dora is a true explorer, finding a route into the rafters of the garage. She has also learned to play fetch with her special white mouse.

Dex is a strong and gentle gentleman. He just loves to be held in the morning while we are getting ready for the day.

They are both a joy to have as part of our family.

Hello,

I've been meaning to write you guys and send along some pictures, but I've been too busy enjoying our new cats! Jane and Elizabeth came to us back in March with the names Lucy and Ethel; I'm a big Pride & Prejudice fan, and my husband just smiled and nodded when I suggested we rename the girls after my favorite literary heroine and her sister. ;) Our original plan was to get a buddy for our older cat Monroe, and we're really glad that we got a pair. Monroe isn't always interested in giving the girls any attention at all, much less play with them, so it's nice that the girls have each other to frolic and romp with. Just having Jane and Elizabeth in the house has done wonders for Monroe, even though he pretends to ignore them most of the time, so we're really happy we adopted the girls. He barely cries and yowls at night anymore, and his eating and playing habits have also changed, just from his observations of the girls eating and playing.

It's been so much fun to see Jane and Elizabeth's personalities come out as they have become more and more comfortable around us and in their new home. There are many windows to sit in and watch the bluebirds who are nesting in our backyard. Both are super playful and love a good cuddle, in their own unique ways. Elizabeth is a little standoff-ish and usually wants us to come to her for love, while Jane will come running when she hears her name. Elizabeth is pretty quiet and has the sweetest little meows, while Jane will talk your ear off! Jane was an excellent sick nurse while I was stuck home sick with a cold, never leaving my side on the couch. Elizabeth always hops on the bed in the middle of the night and will snuggle herself up under our chins.

My husband wasn't completely sold on having two more cats in our house when I originally showed him Jane and Elizabeth's profiles on Petfinder, but now he's absolutely in love. They've brought so much joy into our lives! You all made the whole process so smooth and easy.
