Amos - Three Years Later

As a board member and volunteer of Homeward, I was at the shelter often and fell in love with “Bobbie” (now Amos) immediately.   This gorgeous curly-haired boy caught my attention at once, probably because he looked so much like Casey, our sweet Australian Shepherd mix who had recently gone to the rainbow bridge.  He fit into our family immediately in spite of some training issues, which were quickly resolved.   Because he had spent his first year at the end of a chain in northeast Washington, he had never been taught “inside manners” but was anxious to learn.   Two years ago we moved from Woodinville to Kanab, UT so that Marsha could join the staff of Best Friends and Amos became a “desert” dog.  He is such a happy goofball and looks forward to outings of any kind, from chasing lizards through the stones of our yard to a hike along the Virgin River in Zion National Park.  Because of his thick, black coat he has a hard time adjusting to the hot Utah summers.  So, he always gets his “summer shave”  and we get a “new” dog!  As you can see from the pictures, Amos adores both his older brother, Bear and his new sister, Brea, who was rescued from the Navajo Indian Reservation.

Thank you, Homeward for doing so much for the animals and for bringing Amos to us at just the right time!

'Link' formerally known as Newman.

We would like to thank you again for allowing us to adopt Newman which we have renamed Link (much more fitting). He has been a great asset to our family. As he gets older/bigger his personality is really starting to form and we are enjoying every minute we get to spend with him.

Thank you again, Shawn & Erin.

Puffy update adopted Oct 24, 2009

Dear friends at Homeward Pet -

This is a picture of me with my new brother. I am on the left and
Reggie is on the right. I am 8 years old and Reggie will be 8 years old
in two weeks.
I am so happy to have found my forever home and to have a brother! My
name was Puffy when I was at Homeward Bound but my new mom and dad
changed my name to Felix. I am starting to know that name now - when
they call me by Felix they always give me a lot of love and sometimes a
treat. I sleep on the bed with my new mom and dad and my new brother. My
new mom carries me and my new brother around the house in her arms. I
have had a cold but we went to see the vet and she gave me medicine and
I am starting to feel much better. Thank you for taking me in at
Homeward Bound and for letting me sleep at your homes at night, it was
hard to leave my other families but my new family seem very, very, very
happy that I am a new "kid" for them.
Thank you Homeward Bound. I will talk to you soon.

Love Always,
Felix aka Puffy East

Dear Homeward Pet,

I would like to take a minute out of the day to express how thankful am I that I was introduced to one of the loves in my life when I walked into this shelter. I met Scooby. A quick little update on the fabulous fella. He is just shy of 10 months old. He is a strong healthy guy. Very playful and affectionate. He interacts with other dogs, people and children very well. He has had training classes and is very smart. He can shake with either hand when you ask, he can roll over , speak and bow on command. He is the perfect puppy for my boyfriend and I. We have even ran into his litter mate fred and the dog park. Thank you for all that you do for these animals in need of a home.

Tinkerbell AKA Snuggles

Just wanted to send you an update on Tinkerbell (aka Snuggles)

She is doing great.  We just love her to death!  It took a couple days to get her eating well and settled in but she is doing very well now and I think I can see her growing every day!

She loves our Golden Retriever, Annabelle, and her big scratching post.  We ordered her a Kitty Condo from Costco that we are waiting for that I will send pictures of when we get.

She LOVES to be held and Loves to play and is getting lots of both.  Thanks for our sweet Tinkerbell! (Snuggles)

Happy Tails - The Puppy Juno (formerly known as Princess)

Juno, Dan and Bev wish to thank you all for helping us become a family and enjoy so many happy hours together. Juno is happy and adjusting well just as we are. She is still working on the potty training but doing better every day.

Here is Juno’s story:

Hi to all of the wonderful people who cared for me while I was at Homeward Pet! You found me a really good home with Dan and Bev. They love me so much and they are trying to teach me how to be a good puppy so I will be a wonderful dog as I grow. Everyone that sees me thinks I am just the cutest thing that has ever been seen. It doesn’t hurt any that I run to everyone I meet and treat them like they are my best friend. I am always happy and have my tail wagging whenever I meet someone new. It is funny when Bev and Dan tell the people we meet that I am a Husky mix, everyone says “well the mix must be a golden lab or retriever.” I don’t care what I am, I know that Dan and Bev love me very much and they think I am simply wonderful.

The very first night I arrived at my new home I was given a wonderful crate to call my own. I went to bed inside the crate beside Dan and Bev’s bed and I didn’t cry or complain once. I had toys and a nice warm blanket to sleep with. Dan and Bev took turns getting up every three hours to take me out to potty.

My new home has a great yard to run and play in. It is all fenced so I can’t get out and run down the street or in front of a car. I am very safe here. When I go out Dan or Bev come with me, as I still am not brave enough to go down the stairs from the deck to the yard by myself. They throw balls for me to fetch, they play tug of war with me and my tug rope toy (you can see it in one of my pictures) they will run around the yard with me and let me chase them. It is all great fun!

Right now, I am going to work with Bev every day and staying in my crate in the car. Since Dan and Bev work at the same office, one or both of them comes out and take me out to walk and run every 2 hours for about 20 minutes. I am a hit at the office! Everyone thinks that I am the cutest thing they have ever seen. One of Bev’s friends Donna takes me out to walk sometimes too! I am growing so fast that my crate is almost too small for me. Bev is going to go and buy me a new one this weekend.

I went to meet my Vet Marta at Mercy Vet on Mercer Island. She is a really nice Vet. She gave me chicken jerky while I was there. She listened to my heart and checked me over really well. She gave me a clean bill of health and told me to come back and see her when I am 3 months old for my next vaccination. Marta is a Holistic Vet so she told Bev to feed me a raw meat and vegetable diet. I really like the raw meat and sometimes I get some cooked meat too! Earlier this week I had roast beef and mashed potatoes for lunch! I like the raw meat so much that I don’t even like to eat the dry dog food any more. Bev has read all about the raw meat diet for me and she agrees that it will help me to be healthy and happy.

There are two cats that live with us and they don’t like me very much yet. I guess they think I am going to attack them. I just like to run and chase them and I like to see them run from me. I wish they would play with me so I can show them I am not going to hurt them. Maybe some day soon they will understand me. Gin, the youngest kitty is getting closer and closer to letting me play with her. We touch noses sometimes and then she runs as fast as she can away from me. Sierra, the oldest doesn’t like me one little bit. But then she doesn’t like anyone except Dan and Bev. She doesn’t even like Gin and she runs and hides whenever people come to visit. What strange behavior, I love people and can’t wait to meet someone new.

Well you can see by the pictures that I am happy and growing! I love my new name, Juno as it is a play on words. Juneau Alaska, for the Husky and Juno the Roman Goddess, the protector and Queen that pretty much fits me perfectly!

Whew! What a long story I had to tell. I will send you more pictures and stories as I grow! Thank you again for finding me a home where I am so loved and cared for.

Best Bow Wows to all of you

Juno

It's been a year now with Carlos

I just wanted to let you know how Carlos is doing.  It's been a little over a year since we brought him home.  We couldn't imagine life without him!!  He really loves his canine sister Sidney and loves playing, going on walks and laying in the sun with her.   Julia, my 10 year old entered him in the Aquafest Pet Show this summer...she's working on teaching him better tricks for next year!!  She also loves to set up obstacle courses for him.  His favorite toy is still a tennis ball and yes he is still obsessed with it!!!  We did find out that he prefers the pink tennis balls!!  We joke that he is in touch with his feminine side.  It works out well because Sidney prefers the green ones. Carlos came on a road trip to Nevada this summer to meet his cousins (my brothers male dogs).  I am proud to say that my Pit Bull is a total lover(which they are if brought up right) and not a fighter.  My brothers golden retriever was a bit territorial and Carlos never reacted back to it, he had one thing on his mind...play, play, and more play.  He was such a good traveler on the two day trip.  Carlos loves anyone he runs into whether it be human, canine and yes even feline!!  The one neighborhood cat rubs up against him and he kisses her...it is quite a sight.  If a person walks by without saying hi to him he looks at them  like he's saying "but I'm so cute, don't you want to say hello".  I get so many compliments on his personality and looks.   I am a very proud mom!!!!

We love our kitten

Hi Homeward Pet volunteers & foster families.

We adopted 'Whiskers' now P.J.  in the end of August.  She had been in a foster family gaining weight.  So we especially want to thank them too.

After learning about a good transition (take your time/don't rush it), we were able to bring PJ into our home and family.  We love her, and want to thank you.

We've attached some pictures:

1) PJ with the Martin, Danny and Renae

2) PJ with Choo Choo on the couch.

3)  PJ with Renae and Tipper.

Thanks

The Neifert Family.
