Thanks From Molly

Dear Homeward,

My new humans love me.  The first night in my new home was a little confusing because I didn't understand what was happening.  At first they put me in a quiet room.  They made a little bed for me, but I found a more comfortable spot to sleep in a shoebox of old doll clothes.  When I was ready to leave that room I began exploring all over the house.  My favorite spot to sleep now is under a lamp table in the family room right next to a sunny sliding door.  It's fun to have the space to run after my jingle ball and stuffed mouse when I feel like playing.  I am still a little bit shy, but my humans love me so much I can't resist coming when they call me.  I have been a very good girl using my box, and remembering to stretch my claws only on the cardboard thingy you sent home.  Thanks so much for saving my life.  My humans are grateful to you too.  We all think you're TOPS!

Love,

Molly

Photo's of Lulu

Hi there,

Here are a couple of photos of Lulu who we adopted on April 18th.  She has settled in well and as you can see from one of the photos is getting along fine with our other cat.  She is so affectionate.  We love her.

Thank you,

Kelly

Otter Finds His Pride

We are very much in love with the cat we adopted from your shelter. We
adopted "Alex" a month ago, but renamed him Otter for his extremely
sleek fur. He is very sweet and is relaxing into our household.
Otter loves to play especially with the homemade toy my husband made,
and he has learned to use the scratching post. He is also very snuggly
and sometimes follows us around the house like a dog.
The most exciting thing is that one of our other cats, Little Coyote,
has decided that she likes him. We have seen her rolling around in front
of him trying to get him to play with her. He hasn't taken her up on it
yet because there are still so many new exciting things to pay attention
around here, but I am sure it is just a matter of time before they are
playing together.
And last night, we found them snuggling on the couch together. They have
come a long way. Otter was always friendly and curious about our two
tabby girls, but they were defensive at first. Now, he is winning them
over and is accepted as a member of the "pride."

Stanley

Hello Homeward team,

we adopted Stanley a black Lab mix ca 10 weeks ago. He is very good behaved and we enjoy the time with him very much. Last weekend we enjoyed the Oregon coast in Cannon beach attached some pictures. Sometimes Stanley gets a little bit excited when he sees squirrels, than he becomes a big hunter.
We train him every day and see good improvement.

Thanks,

Michael and Claudia

WILEY

Wiley, has already made him self comfortable. He’s very smart, he knows  that he can only get on the Rec room couch. Since we brought him home he has stopped jumping up. He loves to sleep on our bed and on every ones laps. We don’t know how we lived without him.

Thank You for allowing us to adopt him.

Lucie (formerly Lucy) Update

We got Lucie (formerly Lucy) a few weeks back. She has adjusted great at our new place in Anacortes. She loves playing in the backyard and going on hikes in the parks. She tends to get carsick, so car rides are few but luckily she is so close to some fun places to visit! Lucie is finally figuring out how to play fetch with a ball (instead of a pinecone) and she has also made great friends with our neighbor's dog and she loves to visit him and play!

We love having Lucie around. She is a great addition to our family!

Thank you so much!!

Update on Tucker

Hello,

We adopted Tucker from Homeward Pet at the beginning of March and since we brought him home, he's been so much fun and just doing better and better every day. We think he enjoys all the attention and affection he's getting and he loves playing with his toys, especially his stuffed tiger (sometimes he just cuddles with it- it's too cute!).

He's been great at the off-leash dog park, playing well with all the other dogs. He knows most commands pretty well and will do ANYTHING for food. We have been working really hard to get his behavior on-leash under control and now he walks with us really well. Unfortunately, he still reacts pretty aggressively (or eagerly?) to any other dog when he's on a leash but we've noticed a lot of improvement. He just finished a training class and did really well. We learned a lot and have been practicing so we're hopeful he'll be "saying hello" to all the other dogs he meets very soon!

Otherwise, he's a happy dog and we're happy he's with us!

Take care,
Lisa and Tom

Buck

Buck  aka   Buddy bucko beanhead  Is doing great!!! He has made himself right at home and is a important part of our family. He gets to hang out with me all day and with everyone all evening. He's got several acres of grounds to chill in and a custom bed in the back of the four-runner.  He is free roaming dog most all of the time(leash and fench free)  He (and all of us) really lucked out. It was meant to be I'm sure.
Thanks for bringing him to us.

This is the first time I've ever adopted a pet, and I have to tell you that I am thrilled and grateful that there are organizations out there like this.

Thank You

Skyler, now Jessie

Hi Terri,

This is Jessie ( formerly Skyler ) , adopted in January. She is a
sweetie and she, my husband and I are all very happy together.

Chloe

Twizzler now May

Hi!
I am writing in response to a call I received yesterday from a Homeward Pet agent.
I heard you were interested in hearing about our experience with adopting "Twizzler" early this year.

We have renamed her "May" because we thought that reflected her sweet and joyful nature.  But we do say that she has an alter ego named Twizzler.
May is darling, affectionate, loves to be the center of attention and knows she's cute.
Twizzler is mischievous, rambunctious and also loves to be the center of attention.
May usually becomes Twizzler early in the morning once she's decided everyone in the house needs to be awake and paying attention to her.

She is such a wonderful addition to our family:  my husband, myself and our other cat, Max.
She seems to have really taken to me in particular.  My husband wondered if she had an affinity toward women in her previous home(s).
This may be the case, but I think it may be because I spent so much time with her upon her arrival to our home.  We gave her a long acclimation period, especially since we had the other cat and he had been an only cat for so long.
They have had their moments of differing opinions, but mostly they get along pretty well.  They love to wrestle and play together and they're pretty respectful of each other's space...although May does like to hog attention most of the time, we're sure they each get time alone with us.

I have attached a couple of pictures I hope you enjoy.
I have many more pictures, but unfortunately most of them are blurry...she is just so fast and amazingly is a little camera shy.

But we want you to know that we love her very much and we are so happy that we chose Homeward Pet for our adoption.
We've told many others about our experience and have recommended Homeward Pet many times.

Thank you so much!
Sincerely,
Teri

Franks new home

Hi, I'm sending some photos of Frank (cocker spaniel) now that he has settled in with his new doggie friend. He is a great little fellow and gets along with miss kitty as well as our older dog. He is so lovable and willing to please us. We are working on the potty training, only a couple accidents so far thank goodness. He had a bath and a minimum clip just to get the snarls we will do it again for the really hot weather.
If I can catch them I will get pics of all three together and send to you.
Thanks for all you do for our furry friends. Joy

Where's Waldo?

I was going to wait until we took more pics, but Danielle and Linnea wanted me send these to you. It took Waldo only a short time to warm us to us. He now has taken ownership our apartment.

My first 2 wake up calls were provided by Waldo. He layed on my chest, placed the top of his head under my chin, and proceeded to pretend I was an Ichiro bobble head doll…both mornings at 5:45!

We are so happy to have him as part of our family. I'll send you more pics in the future.

Thank-you for bringing us together!

Dan

Gigi

This is a write up from Gigi’s foster mom who recently gave her a vacation from the shelter!

Meet Gigi – a wonderful and unusual cat!  She is pretty small and has extra thick, very soft fur.  She’s almost all black, but has some white hairs on her chest and belly.  She’s quick to purr with just a little attention.  And she’s not shy like most of the foster cats I bring into the house; she didn’t go into hiding ever.

Like many cats, Gigi has an attitude, but hers is more pronounced than most.  I think she is a bit of a princess.  It worked great for me to treat her like royalty; watch for signs when she wants to be petted.  Once she relaxes she really is quite social and likes to play once she is de-stressed, but the shelter really stresses her out.  She calmed down at my house – it took her 3 weeks this last time.  I just gave her extra space and let her approach me for attention when she wanted it.  And that said, for both stays at my place, she was in my lap purring after the first 24 hours!

She also slept on the bed with me about half the time.  And she liked to curl up on a blanket to be near me in either the living room or office.  And about the fourth day I had her I picked her up and she fell asleep on my shoulder!  (After the first few days I could pick her up easily – though usually she didn’t want to be held for very long.)

Another unusual thing is she doesn’t jump very high, so unlike most cats, she doesn’t jump on counters or window sills unless there is something like a chair in front of it.  Nice for having her in the house.

I understand she was found starving a few months back.  She eats well, but not a lot.  She likes treats – she’s not a picky eater at all, though she did seem to prefer some flavors of moist cat food more than others (cod and shrimp are not her favorites, she loved Trader Joe’s tuna).  I fed her moist food once a day and dry food when she asked for it.  She was really easy to accommodate on the food side of things.  She needs fur-ball medicine sometimes, and the good news is she loves it – she would eagerly lick it off my fingers when I gave it to her.

Gigi has a loud voice when she wants something; she will speak up when she wants food or outdoors.  She asked to go outside every day; that was one thing I couldn’t let her do where I live.  She’ll be happier when she has in-and-out privileges.

I could tell Gigi has been a house cat before; she was really easy that way.  She wasn’t afraid of hair-dryer noises, and understood that there are places like the dining room table that are off limits at meal time.  She seems very trainable; she already knows the word ‘No’.  And she used the litter box all the time – no troubles there.

One habit Gig is‘love-bites’.  She never bit me hard, but often she would love-bite to let me know she’d like me to stop petting her.  I found using the spray bottle with water worked wonders.  After just one or 2 times, she’d straighten up her behavior when I’d grab the bottle.  I think with time and consistent training this habit can be reversed.

She a wonderful cat and easy to have around.  I’ll miss her.  I know she’s a great cat.  I hope she finds a new owner who’ll appreciate and love her.

Gigi needs a home!

Miracle kitten !!

On Wednesday we took in a motherless  kitten arriving from  a shelter in Yakima-this tiny calico was all of one day old!! It’s a miracle that she is still alive and we can credit that success so far to our wonderful foster mom Cheryl!

Hi Laurel,

The baby is doing wonderful.  TLC goes a long way.  She is such a joy. The night feedings give  me a real good excuse to take a nap during the day. J

Thank you for giving me this opportunity.

Bing (now known as Finn)

 Bing (now known as Finn)
Hi,

Just wanted to let you know that Bing, now called Finn, is doing great. He is a fantastic kitty and we are so happy to have him in our lives. He has a great bold personality and doesn't seem phased by anything, not even our 5 month old golden retriever. Our golden is now in training to not chase Finn as he darts from room to room. I think he knows the dog is not allowed to get him so he is tormenting her by running right by her nose as quick as he can. Poor dog :)

Finn's favorite toy is, of course, the feather on a stick and he is proving to be quite the gymnast with his flips and leaps, (as you can see from the photo). My kids adore playing with him. They also like to play "get a kitty from the shelter" with him with includes some time in the "meet & greet" room. It's pretty funny. Anyway, once Finn is done chasing the feather he usually like to sit in my lap and purr his wonderful loud purr. He is such a love.

I want to thank all of the staff at Homeward Pet that give so freely of their time in such a caring and conscientious way. Thank you for allowing us to take "Bing" home to share in this wonderful little guys life. We adore him and can't wait for the day that the dog gets bored with him and Finny can roam the house freely.

Thanks again,

Vilna

Adoption follow up

We wanted to share an update about our puppy Cooper (formerly Charlie).  He was part of the 8 pup litter adopted about Feb 19th.  He successfully completed puppy class and is awaiting further training for him and us!!  He absolutely loves to explore new things in his the fenced back yard, find the hummingbirds and an occasional cat that happens through.  He has been a great addition to our family and we are enjoying watching him grow, DAILY it seems.  It was great for the family to see updates about his siblings; Tasha, Molly and Max (Curly) are the pups we found in the blog.  I would not have believed that our little red dog is related these other black pups if I had not seen them all for myself at the shelter.  Thanks again for our great new family member.

Edgar's New Home

Happy Easter Homeward Pets!

My husband and I just wanted to thank you for Edgar, whom we got from you shelter about 3 weeks ago.  He is so loving and loves to snuggle inside and really suits our lifestyle.  We are still working on his outside behavior, and appreciate the reference of a trainer.  He is really learning a lot everyday along with his trainers.  He seems to have settled into our home very well and we couldn't have been more happy!!!

Thanks,

Annika

Just an update on Annika, who we adopted back in June 2007.  We have now had her for what will be two years this coming June and are happy to report that she is doing well and settled in quite nicely.  Annika is very loving but also very independent, as Anatolian Shepherds can be.  She enjoys patrolling the yard, playing with our other dog Boo, or just lounging in the grass or on her big soft bed.  She still loves her walks greatly, however, we have had to shorten them much to her dismay.  She is older than what was once thought and her nerves in her back are degenerating as they can in this breed.  She loves going on motorhome trips and we will be leaving on a trip with both dogs in a couple of weeks.  We love her dearly and she has definately been a great addition to our family.

Thank You!

Paulette Green

XBear (now Tucker) finds his forever home!

Our little kitty is a riot and incredibly smart.  His new name is Tucker and it seems to fit him perfectly b/c he plays so hard with the girls and his feather toys, toilet paper, and anything not bolted down that could be swiped off a counter top, and then is so Tuckered out he crashes on my bed or under my bed for the next few hours.  He's enjoying our dog Lucy and they keep each other happy all night running the hallway, bouncing on my bed, and sharing their food with each other.
Tucker has got the loudest purrr and the sweetest little meow ever.  I have a little video on my home computer for you but we've been so busy I haven't had a chance to send it your way yet.  I'm at work right now or I'd send it now.
I think he likes it best when it's just me and him, but the girls are great playmates for him.  He is soft and cuddly and adjusting very well.  He just discovered how fun it is to taunt Lucy from the kitchen counter yesterday.  And I just realized he likes to bat anything that rolls off my bathroom counter into the garbage can below.  I'm going to have to start checking the garbage.
He LOVES my bathroom sink for some reason.  I have found him napping in it a couple times.  A big bowl full of black cat.  It's quite cute.
I finally moved his litter and food to the other bathroom now that he's comfortable roaming the house, but he got locked in my room for a few hours somehow and ended up going potty in the shower.  He's soooo smart!  He could have gone on my bed, in my closet or on my carpet, but he didn't.  We all apologized to him that he'd gotten closed in during his nap and had a talk about never closing mommy's door anymore b/c Tucker might be sleeping under the bed and needs to be able to get out to his food and kitty litter.
We were in such a habit of closing the door before while he was adjusting and had everything in there that he needed.  We didn't let the dog in my bedroom for a good week.  We let them smell each other under the door for awhile.
He loves being brushed and he's so incredibly soft.  Tucker's purr brings such a peace to us when he's being lovey on my bed.  It's like he has been part of the family forever.  And his pouncing on anything that moves under the covers sends everybody into giggles at bedtime.
Thanks for giving him such a wonderful beginning.  We hope that we can give him a wonderful lifetime.  He's one of the family now and we adore him.

Best regards,

Krista

FW: Maggie [Petunia] now home and well

Maggie (Petunia was just too hard for both of our girls to say. We will
see if we can get it to stick) is doing awesome. We came right home and
let Maggie get acquainted with our home. She is doing awesome and we
have absolutely fallen in love with her. After a couple of hours all of
us including Maggie went to PetSmart and spent a small fortune getting
all the things she needs. Thank you so much for your help and concern
for this great dog.

Sincerely,
Ben, Marianne, Bella, Sophie, and now Maggie.

Update on Betty!

Hello!

I just wanted to send a quick update on Betty, the Rhodesian Ridgeback mix we adopted a few weeks ago. We actually renamed her Luna, because she didn't seem to recognize "Betty" anyway. She is doing very well! She seems to have bonded very well with us, and is extremely affectionate. This week she has also taken it upon herself to begin guarding the house, and has started giving a quick bark or two when she hears something unusual (I take this as a good sign that she is settling into her new home). She loves playing "keep away" in the back yard, and we are attempting to teach her to fetch a frisbee. She has extremely good house manners, and is responding well to us reinforcing calm behaviors.

We have been attempting to get her to gain some weight, and so far she has put on two pounds. Unfortunately, her vet visit turned up some possible pancreatic enzyme problems, so we are adding a prescription enzyme supplement to her food to improve her nutrient uptake. So far she is doing fine on it, and hopefully she'll gain some more weight!

She is a real bundle of energy, and we have started leash training her. She has a bad habit of pulling, and this will probably be the most difficult thing to train (she has already learned "sit" and "down" and does a pretty good "stay"). She is making some progress with the leash, however, and I took her for a three mile run last week without much trouble at all! She loved it. We have also trained her to carry a backpack when we walk her in the evenings, which gives her a little more of a workout. She doesn't mind it, and I think she enjoys having a "job." This will be useful for us when we take her hiking - she can carry her own food and water!

I attached a couple photos of Luna in her new home!

Happy Tails - Ali/Bruce

Hello all at Homeward Pet,

Just wanted to send in a couple of photos of Ali, now known as Bruce, graduating from Beginners Obedience Class!  We adopted Bruce from Homeward Pet in December 08 and he’s gone from a stubborn, mellow little puppy to a stubborn, mellow 55 pound little man.  He’s now preparing to be the ring bearer in our wedding.  Thanks again for bringing Bruce into our lives.

Carrie, Mike

Adopted doggy Newman

Hey, we just wanted to write and give you an update on Newman. He's
doing great. He couldn't have adjusted quicker.

After we left your offices we stopped at PetCo to get some things and
then came home. We bought him a dog bed and he jumped right into it
after we tossed it on the floor. I took a nap that afternoon on the
couch and Newman jumped right up and slept on my stomach. That night he
jumped right into bed with us. He's a bit of a bed hog though so after
a few nights of sleeping half off the bed we started bringing the dog
bed into the bedroom with us.

He hasn't peed, pooped, or chewed on anything in the house. He rarely
barks (unless there's a squirrel around).

We walk him several times a day, and he drags us the whole way. We
started taking him to the dog park at Marymoor Park and he's done really
well there. One day there were too many dogs and he was so excited that
he didn't listen. Since then we've been taking him later in the day
when there isn't as much activity. He's gotten much better and there
haven't been any more incidents.

We had a little issue with the liquid medicine you'd given us. He just
didn't want anything to do with it. So when we took him to the vet we
had the vet give us a tablet that would work. He took the tablets no
problem.

hmmmm what else... oh, he doesn't like acoustic guitars. Apparently not
his thing.

He's actually staring at me right now wanting attention.

Thanks for everything,

Jeremiah, Christa, and Newman

Star

Hi,

You called last week to check on the status of Star, who I adopted about 3.5 weeks ago.

I can tell you that Star is doing great!  He is the sweetest dog in the world and has adjusted to life in Ballard.  He loves his morning and evening walks and enjoys his 'quiet time' when he gets to snooze during the day while I am at work.  Some days he gets to get out at noon too as I have friends who live close by who check in on him once in awhile.

He has taken over the sofa, but that's OK.  He got a clean bill of health from my local vet and I can tell you he is very comfortable and relaxed in my home.  He enjoys watching DVDs with me and especially likes it when friends are over for dinner.  He never begs for food, but does crave the attention of all :)

I have attached 2 pictures that give you snapshot of his new life.

Thanks,

Marco
